Dear Dr. Ian,
I am a 54 year old A.A. women in what I thought was great shape. However, I have gain 40 pounds in the last two years after the death of my husband,and have dveloped high blood pressure, and cholesterol medical condition.
Currently taking Pravastatin (20mg); Pantoprazole (40mg); Lisinopril (5mg) and St. Joseph (81mg) Daily. I have begin to walk 3 miles a day, but I need help in losing this weight. My main reason for starting this is, is to improve my health and to get my life back.
So would you please advice/help me to find a way to lose this weight so that I can get back to being me again!

I have a hard time trying to lose weight because of my thyroid, I don't do everything I should to eat right or excerise like I should, but I have in the past but after
you try to all this things and do see results that you expect, you really get discouraged and get of the wagon but I still try to work on my eating habits daily.
I want to lose 50 pounds, can you please suggest a good nutrition diet.

Hello i am 50 year old i weight about 230 pound and 5'4. i don't feel bad about my weight but i know it not a healthy weight. i would like to weight about 165 by the in of this year. I been trying over & over again.but the weight just want more. i have feel like i have lost inch become i was a size 20 and now i am size 18. but the scale

I've always been very muscular and in the three years I've gained about 50lbs. I'm 44yrs old 5'9" and I weight 230lbs. I feel so uncomfortable with my size. I have cut back on my meals and I walk two miles in the morning and two in the evening and I also work out. I'm losing inches but my muscles are just get bigger. Is there anything I can do to lose muscles? Can you please help me??? I feel like "Arnold Schwarzenegger" in a dress...PLEASE, What can I do?

I am a 49 year old black women soon to be 50. I use to be 125, I know that, I will probably never be that size again. But I'm just not happy with my size now 178. Hello i am 28 yrs of age and i weigh 343 pounds. I'm 5'11 and i have no children. some people say that I look young some say I look older than what i am. Dr I would just like to get down to a size 18 if i could. I wear a size 28 in pants, my shoulders are huge and I believe that i could start as defensive lineman for the cleveland browns. I don't have low self esteem, I love me but I for Health reasons I need to get this weight off of me. i recently started to go to aerobics class in the afternoon, and I go to a fitness gym in the morning. I use the treadmill, the eliptical machine, and I even started biking. I have to do this because my right knee is starting to bother me and I don't want to have knee surgery. I am motivated to lose what I have to lose believe me. I just need a little bit of help can you help me. My health is depending on it. You see I had hip surgery when I was eleven yrs of age and that was tramatic and now I believe that my balance is off. I belong to a female motorcycle club and I am scared that I won't perform well like the other ladies due to it. So Dr Ian do you think you can help me out. I truly want to lose the weight. Thankyou

My goal is to loose 50 lbs. I turned 43 in December and I really would feel a lot better if I met this goal. My family has a history of diabetis,and high blood pressure I am very blessed so far not to had to deal with these issues and I'm starting today to set an example for the rest of my family. Dr. Ian, I am an insulin dependent diabetic. I am trying to lose weight to get off some of the medications I am taking and to feel better and of course to look better. I am currently on Weight Watchers, but I am having a difficult time losing the weight. I keep losing and gaining the same 2 lbs. I try to eat a balanced meal and watch the type of foods that I eat, it is so hard to lose weight when you are taking insulin.
Can you offer some suggestions?

you know i heard this on the radio station I think that this is a good idea i have lost over 167 pounds by myself but of course gain 37 pounds lost 14.6 pounds of it as of today on the turn around program of weight watchers I think that you need to be with people that have the sturangle so i think this is a good idea then people out ther in the world wont think there are alone. Knowing that people out there are going to the same thing so the stuff that they get up with everyday there are people out ther going threw the same thing thing so we are not alone

DR.I i decided to start loosing weight because i saw how unhappy my mother was with her weight and all the health problem she had htn, dm-2,obesity everything and i don't want to be like my mom unfortunately my mother passed 2 1/2 yrs ago at the age of 56. I tried to get her to do something but it was impossible now my father is 58 and smoke over weight no exercise eats fried food lots of salt on everything and doesn't see the doctor I'm just afraid his going to be next if he doesn't do anything. how can i get him to lose at least 20 pounds?

Dr. Ian...I heard about the Challenge on the Steve Harvey Show a few weeks ago and find it a wonderful idea for all. This morning I decided I want to join the fight. I have tried to eat "right" particularly because of my diabetes but find loosing weight a greater challenge now than ever before. Idealistically I have 40 lbs. to loose. I hope I am able to get some good advice and tips through your program.

This is a great idea. I'm in the process of starting a walking and work out group of African American Women. Our goal is to not only loose weight but to become and remain healthy. This will be my first time starting a group. Do you have any advise on how to do this or can you offer any advise about certain things we can do? My main reason for starting this is so that we can support and encourage each other in the quest to meet our individual weight goals. So here we go....
