I've always been "petite" 4'11",97 lbs.in good shape, extremely physically active until a hys terectomy at age 45,6 years ago. What noticed I immediately was extreme fatigue, energy level
has improved, but not much. But, what I have problems with now is my weight! I weigh 125 lbs. & struggle to loose.I feel worse than ever, the confidence I once had is lacking.
What I believe will help is to start from the
inside out."Elimination,natural foods,excer-
size,positive thinking,& meditation. My hope
is that you'll have a program for people like
me that don't have a trememdous amount of
weight to loose, but, need to before the pro-
blem gets out ot control.Thank you & God Bless!

Hi Dr. Ian I want to sign up for the challenge but Im afraid to weigh myself. The reason for this is because if I weigh myself and Im not loosing weight I will start eating again. I am 5"2 and was at 215 pds. I was depressed because its in my stomach and thighs... mostly my stomach... I look in the mirror and its killing my self esteem drastically... this is what Ive been eating... Breakfast... special K with 2% milk... Lunch and Dinner... Salad with no meat.... I know this seems unhealthy but I need to be happy. There are women out there twice my size with a confidence that i could only dream of.... I recently bought a bike and I ride it all the time... I dont see a difference.... I mean what am I doing wrong... Im already starving myself...

Hi I am 45 yrs of age,I recently visited my doctor. She told me I have high cholesteral and high blood pressure. I am 5'4 and I used to weigh 245lbs. Since I started the 50 million challenge as of today I am 216lbs. I stopped drinking and smoking cigarettes which was very hard to accomplish. I gave up drinking sodas as well.I walk 4 miles 6 days a week, I do 50 crunches 3 times a week, and I drink plenty of water. My problem is I left fried food for two months and then I had a taste for fried chicken. Since then I have been eating fried chicken every other day. Now my problem is everytime I weigh myself it's always the same, 216lbs. I need help with dieting because I dont like dairy products such as milk and yogurt. I would like to reach 150lbs by next summer if possible.

I registered with the 50 million pound challenge today for the first time, july 11th, but I've been participating since june 9. I started at 271 pounds and as of july 11th,I currently weigh 251.I am a single mother of 6 and I work full time so I had to figure out a way to adjust my lifestyle to differ from my children eating habits as well as the parties for every ocassion at work.I found that preparing my food prior to fixing the kids meals kept me from snacking or(tasteing) what I made for them.I would eat my meal while cooking theirs. On those days when I wasn't particularly in a cooking mood, I'd pop pizza's in the oven for my kids and a lean quisine in the microwave for myself.I enjoyed the Lean Quisine's so much and they were so convenient that I started taking 1 to work for lunch and had another for dinner when I got home, and a half of a cup of frozen yogurt for dessert. For breakfast I usually have a cup of raisin bran or honeynut cheerios and a egg white or another good breakfast like half of a large grapefruit and 1 slice of whole grain toast with I cant believe it's not butter spray, a half of teaspoon of jelly an egg white and a slice of canadian bacon.Between meals, approximately every 2.5 hours I snack on either a piece of fruit or fruit cup,fat free pretzels, 25 reduced fat cheez its or even 15 of the fat free ruffles sour cream and cheddar chips, only sold in the big bags, with a crystal light drink or a diet soda with splenda.I stop eating at 7 pm for the day making sure I've consumed at least 5 eight oz glasses of water. On saturday for sticking to my diet all week I treat myself to something I'm really craving, a small portion though,I cook all my meals on saturday and sunday since I have time on those days, fresh veggies, lean meat and my special touch. As far as exercise,I haven't gotten to a routine of things to do or times to dedicate to exercising, however at work,I take the stairs instead of the elevator,I do leg lifts in my chair, lunges going to the restroom or walking down the aisle, while cooking or doing dishes I do sideways leg lifts, when I'm driving home and stuck in traffic I do semi crunches(suck in my stomach and press the top half of my body downward. As I'm lying in bed waiting to drift off I lay on my side and do 50 leg lifts and then raise my arm in front of me shoulder level and squeeze making my arm as stiff as possible, then I slowly lower my arm and take it as far back as it can go(you can really feel the muscle tightening in the back of your arm)I do 50 of each exercise on both my left and right side. That's it, it seems to be working but it only goes to show that every little bit counts and you have to do what you can when you can.(things I swear by) Splenda only, absolutely no sugar and I promise you can't tell the difference. even in prepackaged items or soda's there are quite a few that use splenda as the sweetener.I only use fat free, reduced fat or light products,If it doesn't have 1 of those words on it I pass it up.I only eat whole grain carbs such as breads, pasta's,brown rice. and anything that has to be pan fried(egg)sauteed or needs an oil on it to be broiled, I use cooking sprays. They have butter flavored as well as olive oil.

I listened to the Steve Harvey show and I heard Dr Ian talk about starting a fit club for everyday people. I think this is wonderful a idea. I'm 24 years old. I'm 5'8 and weigh 225. I would like to loose about 75 pounds. I have been overweight most of my young life, and I would like to loose weight because heart problems run in my family. My daddy had heart failure about 5 years ago, and I saw how he had to change his ways. I would like to get healthy in every way. Everytime I decide I want to make a change I will workout, change my habits for a few months, but I always quit. I think all I need is a little push. Thank you for taking my post under consideration.

Good day to all,
I am a 5'2 147 pound 23 year old looking to lose 20 pounds. I know, I know that doesn't like alot but I have my struggles with weight like everyone else.
I would love for the show to be the kickstart to a new me. Normally shows only show those who have more than 50 or so pounds to lose. It's time to see all different sizes of those needing to lose weight... and of course, I'm willing to represent those who may need to lose a little less. I'M HEAR TO CONTRIBUTE MY 20 lbs TO THE 50 MILLION POUND CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!!

Hello DR. Ian,
My Name is Monica I am very interested in being on the show that you are trying to get together. I have being trying to lose weight for about 12 years now. My friends would joke and say that I have been on a diet every week for years. I want to show them that I can really get this weight of me. I have tried just about every diet plan I can think of and I know I have spent over a thousand dollars on different diet products. I am tired of wearing a T-shirt over my swimsuit at the beach or at the pool. I am 35 and I want to be able to show this body off n a 2 piece bikini while I am still young. I just want to feel good about my body. I am tired of sucking my gut in every time I walk pass a crowd of people.
DR. Ian can you please help me get this weight off.

Dr. Ian, I am about as regular a person as you will meet. I am a single mom, very active, very overweight, and want to do whatever it takes to be around and healthy for my two young children. I watch Celebrity Fit Club and always think "I wish they had a show like that for regular people," and then I heard you on the Steve Harvey show this morning and thought to myself, "God has answered my prayers!!" You are a very motivating person and look at issues other than weight which is so helpful. I know the show you have in mind will be a huge success and I hope that if the show goes on, you will help me on my way toward success also.
Thanks for your consideration!!!

Dr. Ian,
Please consider me for new weight loss show.
I urgently need to lose weight for my health and well being. I am a 32 yr old female 5'7, approximately 225lbs (I have recently lost 19 lbs before i joined 50) I have 4 kids (youngest 7 mo old). I have recently fell off the wagon, so to speak and I really need moral support and encouragement. I know that if I had more time, more money and more will power I can do this. I want to lose about 70 more pounds once and for all!
I know I would feel a lot better and feel good about myself if I had the opportunity and were given the tools needed to help me accomplish my goal.

Dr. Ian,
This morning I heard you on the Steve Harvey morning show and feel my boyfriend & I would be good candidates for your show. I am 26 years old, 5'2", 225lbs. My boyfriend is 5'10" 205lbs. I have never been one to focus on my weight, however I am afraid my old habits have rubbed off on my boyfriend. He and I have gained 40lbs a piece since we met. I have developed high cholesterol & he is now a type 2 diabetic. I have joined bally's & work out at least twice a week. He on the other hand has increased his carb intake tremendously since he was diagnosed with diabetes. I am afraid he is killing himself slowly. We both need help so we will be able to grow old together. During our time together, I realized he has the tendency to listen to a 3rd party instead of his immediate family. Please help.

Hello, Dr. Ian.
My name is Johnathon Smith and my fiance, Jacqueline Fleming, has been very unhappy with her weight for years-atleast 8 years to my knowledge. She is 5 feet and 3 inches, and weight 239lbs. She has exercised, dieted, and prayed, but she still have not seen any change. The situation is getting worse meaning at night time when place my arm around her she quickly say "move your hand off my fat". Dr. Ian I love this woman and it hurts me too see and hear how unhappy she is. I love her the way she is , but thats me, and not her talking. Please invite her to join you and the other contestants on your future show for average people fitt club. This would mean a lot to her and her health. Her feet hurt her so bad that I have to massage them every night, due to her job and errands she runs for her family.
Thank you for reading! Aching hands and heart

Dr. Ian, I am a 5ft 4inch 256 pound 50 year old woman, a mother of 2 and grandmother of 5. A month ago my doctor informed me that I am a diabetic. I called my parents up and told them that I am going to die because I can't stop eating. I eat continously and never get full. I have tried most diets but have failed. I am part of the new wellness committee at work. I want to be a positive example to all. I am becoming a recluse and I have signs of failing health. I am the only child out of 5 siblings that has a weight problem. My parents fear for my life, and I feel as though I am killing them slowly. I have never asked for help. I am beyond asking I am begging. Please help! (Respusia's look-a-like, from Norbit)

Hi Dr. Ian,
My name is Natikia Robinson, and I am 27 years old. After listening to the Steve Harvey show this morning, I became more interested in the 50 million pound challenge than I had been before. Although I just joined the site today, I was first introduced to it on Blackplanet. I picked up a packet from a local State Farm agent several months ago, but never joined the site. Not because of lack of interest, but because I tend to be a procrastinator. I often said to myself that I will join tomorrow. My excuse was, "I don't feel like filling in a form today."
My current weight is 202lbs, and I am approximately 5' tall. I started on my journey back from this weight gain around two weeks ago at 214 pounds. Ironically, I received my Masters degree in public health and spent a great deal of time speaking to groups about co-morbidities related to obesity, but I chose to ignore them, especially since I currently suffer from none.
I packed on about 50 lbs in my undergraduate program. After graduating and starting work, I was able to shed 40 of those pounds. Then I decided to return to graduate school. I packed the 40 pounds back on in addition to another 20. I was utterly disgusted, but complacent. So, I merely trudged on in an unhappy body.
The turning point for me was watching a reality TV show for overweight people. I thought to myself, they are just regular fat people too, and if they can do it, so can I. I have lost 12 lbs since I began working out with a trainer on June 21, 2007. I honestly have started to feel the drag of it all and feel a show targeted towards a challenge for regular people would be great for me. I usually don't like to seek help, because I believe that you have to go so many things alone. This morning, however, I realized that others can share in you getting there, but it’s still a triumph for you. I need help, and your show can truly help me if I were selected as a contestant.
Thanks for creating a place for us to network and take back our lives.
Natikia

Hi Dr. Smith - My name is Ann Nettles, I'm 37, a single mom of a teenager, and I'm extremely overweight. I try to set a good example for my 15 yr old daughter but she seems to be an example for me - she dances four days a week. She says I'm not fat so I don't feel bad but all my clothes are tight and I refuse to buy anything until I lose at least 50lbs.The main reason for wanting to be part of this challege is my mother was overweight until she was diagonosed with thyroid/lung cancer(she doing alot better now)but she also suffers from high blood pressure, diabetes and ashma and I don't want to follow in her foot steps. I'm scared and I don't want to take pills for the rest of my life - I need help. Can you help me?

Hi Dr. Ian,
I am 27 years old. I was an athlete early as a child, and I continued well into college. I was the one in the gym so regularly it was like I worked there! I ate healthy, I exercised, and I looked great.
Over the past year, I have gotten overwhelmed with work, and just life in general. I went from a 5 foot 1 inch woman weighing 125 lbs. to 140 lbs.! I do not even know when I began to "let myself go". I feel like I woke up one day and there it was. I have a huge weakness for pastas, breads, and chocolate. I know...the WORST foods to eat, and I eat them all EVERYDAY! :( I listen to the Steve Harvey Morning Show regularly, and when I heard you this morning, I said I need to just stop with excuses and join.
I really like what you are doing with this challenge. It is such an epidemic among the black community, and I am happy someone finally stepped up to act on it. I look forward to transforming myself into an even better, healthier me! Thank you Dr. Ian!!!!
P.S. WHEN ARE YOU COMING TO PHILLY??????

Hello everyone,
I just started the 50 pound challenge. My daily exercise regimen consists of anywhere between 40 - 80 repetitions of leg lifts, kicks, squats, and sit ups. I do a combination of walking and jogging for 30 mins minimum 3-5 days a week. I have a small dog which helps since I have no other choice but to take him out for frequent walks. One thing I highly suggest and is imperative for all is drinking a lot of water. I usually add a slice of lemon for flavor. Good Luck everyone!

All of my life I have been small, in both height and size. I am now 33 years old, 5 feet tall and I weigh 126 lbs. I went from 112 lbs to 126 lbs in about 4 months and I don't know how. I look like I am about 4-6 months pregnant and I am not. My back is even fat. I not sure if this is the 30 year old spread that everyone is talking about but I don't like it and this can't be healthy. Please help me, I never really had to diet or count calories, therefore I don't really understand what to do other than to not eat. I don't believe in that.

I don't know if I'm doing this the right way but I am trying to email Dr. Ian and let him know that I would be a great candidate for his weight lost show. My name is Severina Jones and I'm a 37 year old married African American woman who is the mother of 6 amazing children, 21, 19, 13, 7, 3, and a 1 year old. I was a teenage mother who never gave my body the chance to develop normally. I have been overweight my entire adult life. I want to lost weight because I want to enjoy the benefits of living a healthy life for me and my family. I work full time, go to school full time and is a full time momma. I feel like I'm burning the candle at both ends and at my present weight of 264 I don't know how much longer I can live like this. My greatest fear is not being here to see my children grow. Please help a sister who is in need of a life makeover.

Hi Dr. Ian!!
I used to smoke for over 15 years and I didn't want to quit becuase I always had a fear of gaining weight. See, I used to teach aerobics and I had a very nice figure. I keep my weight down very good. I then met wonderful guy. We dated alot and it was hard to watch my weight with all the going out, eating late and traveling, my weight increase some. But after we got married, I got alittle comfortable and stopped working out. Thus, I gained weight and was smoking. After several years later, with the extra weight increase and still smoking and not exercising, I started having small medical signs, and I knew that this was not good for me. My cholestoral and blood pressure was up and not to mention I was having small chest pains. As a matter of fact, I would be eating ice cream while watching Celebrity Fit Club and rooting for my favoriate. Then one day I was feeling really bad. I went to the urgent care and the doctor took my blood pressure and it was really high. He told me to quit smoking or die. And on the way home I prayed and the Lord delivered me from the ciggaretts. Once I stopped, I started walking with my neighbor in the evenings. I then joined a gym. It has been 2 years on May 18th that I stopped smoking and I'm still losing. Now, I'm starting to look at my husbands stomach. So we both started walking and eating more fruits and vegetables and we are both looking good and our sex life is grrrreat!!! Love you Dr. Ian for all you do and for the difference you make in all our lives. Because you are not only helping FitCluber's you are helping the black communities & all communities over come one of the biggest killers.
Love you
Dre aka Andrea

Sister, continue to stay focused and before you know it you will reach your goal. I have been working out since May and have begun to notice a difference and in some ways faster than I realized changes were being made.

I am so grateful to the 50 Million Pounds Challenge. Over the last three years I have lost a total of 165 pounds and it all started with simply walking and reducing my caloric intake to 1200 calories a day. Since thenI've built up to running and my favorite exercise machine, the stairmaster for an hour and half a day. At my heaviest I weighed 335 lbs. I'm now down to 168. Over the last year or so I've struggled to lose the last 30 pounds to reach my ideal goal weight of 140. I have been fluctuating between 165 and 185 and was beginning to get discouraged. Since hearing of this challenge I have a new outlook on being wanting to be healthy and reaching my goal. Thank you Dr. Ian.

Hello my name is Teairya Johnson I am an 18 year old mother.Who has been working hard at trying to maintain or at least get back to my begining weight before my pregnancy. I weiged at least 130 before i had gotten pregnant, but when I got pregnant with my daughter I thought that I could use that pregnacy excuse to eat anything that I wanted.I ate anything that was greasy I would try to fool myself by eating salads and fruits to convince myself that I was healthy and I was not gaining to much weight. As time went on I ended up weighing close to 210 pounds and it was not satisfing to me. After I had my daughter I began to eat healthy and exercise now that my daughter is four months old I weigh 150 pounds and still going and I feel that I have to thank my fiance Teddy who has been working out with me and Dr. Ian for helping me and understand that I was killing myself silently.

I had always been small. During my teenage years at my largest I weighed 105lbs. I ate what I wanted, large plates of red beans and rice, whole bags of potato chips, and lots of junk food. My mother always told me it would catch up with me, "That high metabolism won't be with you forever" she'd say. "Okay" I'd say as I stuffed my face. Well, apparently she was right. After giving birth to my second child four years ago I've steadily gained weight and now find myself at the heaviest I've ever been a whopping 210 lbs. Although I'm happy with my body (the wieght is well distributed). I'm very unhappy with my weight and I know that being this heavy for my height, well distributed or not, is very unhealthy. With the help of Dr. Ian, The Challenge, and a nutritionist my doctor recommended I am on my way to a healthy weight and lifestyle. I've been excercising and eating well for two weeks now and I sucessfully lost 7lbs. I know that is not a lot but it is a great start and I plan to continue. My nutritionist suggested a low carbohydrate diet plan because of my family history of diabetes and high blood pressure. I heard about the challenge from my sisters who have all struggled in the past with their weight, we are all doing it together. It is important now that I get down to a healthy weight because this fall my husband and I plan on expanding our family and I don't want to have to battle after the baby is born to get back to a healthy weight with added baby fat. My goal is to lose at least 50 pounds, I'll keep you posted!!!!!

I also have decided to lose weight. Since I joined almost 2 months ago my weight went down, but back up again. Only because I also got frustrated. I do workout and noticed more muscle is forming, but according to all of the weight charts based on my height I should be at least 20 lbs lighter than I am. So I have cut down on resistance training to 2 days a week starting next Monday. I will be back on track. I have to keep recording my weight and that is one thing that helped me lose 10 lbs last year, but I stopped and gained the weight back. I don't want to be as big as my mom and now that she is losing weight her success is making me more motivated. I WILL LOSE 20 lbs and my goal is to lose at least 1 lb a week. I think taking it slow will help me keep it off.

I recently participated in a hospital sponsored weight loss program that taught me to eat atleast 5 fruit and vegetables a day, excercse atleast 30 minutes each day, and replace one of my meals with a low-calorie meal replacement (i.e., low-fat shake or frozen low-fat entree), and most importantly keep records and set daily goals. I try to plan my meals in the morning and keep low-fat snacks around that prevent me from going through drive-thru windows. Over time it became easier and it pays off. I can 1-3 pounds a week. So it is not about quick weight but changing to a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss is a bonus!

the key to losing weight is to burn more than you intake, or burn half of your daily calorie intake.
