TERRI TRAORE:

I DID IT!!!! LOST 35LBS
FEEL GREAT....45 & FEEL 20

Sher:

My name is Sher and I am 58 years old. I have been a fitness instructor for 24 years. A few years ago I was divorced from a 29 year marriage. I was devastated. I quit teaching and sat in my room for days at a time. The Lord spoke to me and told me to move from my city to Atlanta, GA. I gained 30 pounds and was diagnosted pre-diabetic. With help from God, I am ready to live again. I still teach when I can and would love to help people in my Douglasville area with a regular exercise class. Not only would it be a help for me because I love teaching so much, but I believe the Lord will allow me to be a help to others. Please email me and lets do it together.

Patricia Williams:

On June 4 I decided to increase my work out by walking with some ladies from my ministry. We started walking 4 miles on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. On Saturday mornings we do 6 miles. This month we decided to do 5 a day during the week and 7 on Saturdays. On the days I dont walk I do Hip Hop Abs. I just started tracking my weight on 50 million pounds , However to date I have lost 15.5 lbs. I plan to lose 58 more.

Maia:

Hi Everyone,
I am a new member to the Challenge and this is my first blog. I am really motivated to lose this weight. I feela bit down because I had lost 40lbs. last year and have gained back twenty-five, but I'm a positive person and know if I did it once I can again..but permanently this time. Starting today I am swearing off ice cream (my downfall) and began my work even before getting out of bed this morning with stretches, then walking and eating half a grapefruit, small bowl of Kashi cereal with blueberries and I drank water for breakfast.
I know this will be hard but we are all in this together and I am getting my family on board as well.

Thanks all,
Maia

Julie:

Tawanna, instead of grabbing fast food on the go, grab a protein shake or protein bar for lunch! Instead of eating three square meals a day, break them down into 5 small meals. I usually drink a protein shake for breakfast; a protein bar for my mid-morning snack; a light lunch; another protein shake for my afternoon snack; then dinner. I still eat whatever I want, but just less of. I do not believe in fad diets. But, I do believe in incorporating foods high in fiber and foods that have a thermogenic effect. Work-out first...eat second. Your metabolism is in high gear for at least an hour or two after you complete your work-out. Therefore, when you eat after your work-out, your metabolism is burning calories at a fast rate. Try not to eat an hour or two before you go to bed. You burn about 55 calories per hour while you are sleeping. Eating just before you climb into bed slows your metabolism rate. If push comes to shove, eat something very light (i.e., celery, an apple, a grapefruit, or some baby carrots, or about 23 almond pieces). Good luck on your journey to becoming healthy!

Julie:

Hello, everyone. This message is for Charmaine regarding your posted note on 7/6/07. It might be a good idea that you do water aerobics to keep the stress off of your ankles. Water aerobics is a good source of exercise and will strengthen and tone your muscles, as well as giving you a good cardio work-out. Hope this little tid bit will be helpful to you!

Barbara:

I have two baby girls, a 5month old and a 20 month old, working full time and trying to continue my postpregancy weight loss. I have lost over 20lbs since April doing a 45min hip hop dvd at least three times a week and cutting back on my meal portions. My goal is to get down to my prepregancy weight of 130lbs. from 186lbs. I signed up now to help further motivate me to lose an extra 20lbs. I think the secret to weight loss is consistency and moderation.

Daquita Clark:

Once I got my challenge kit , I immediately began a walking routine. I try to have a brisk walk 3 days a week for an 1/2 an hour during my hour lunch. I incorporated 1lb weights into my walk to work on my tri and biceps. I try to do 100 crunches in the morning and once i get home from work. I especially would like to see a difference in my upper body being that I had a baby over a year ago. So far I have lost 8lbs and i have 52 more pounds to go before im at my goal weight of 180lbs. Thanks for your program, Ian. I foresee much success with what you are doing to help us.

MizGee:

Hi everybody, I joined a few days ago and I am trying to lose 50lbs. This is the heaviest I have ever been. I currently weigh 191 and I am 5 5' The problem that I am running into is the diet. I am struggling with eating healthy. I am always on the go and normally grab food on the go. I also love Cold Stone Creamery. I will have some ice cream and then go to the gym to work it off but I am not losing any weight as a result. I actually crave sweats especially the ice cream. I believe that this challenge will motivate me to get my diet under control. Currently I exercise about 4-5 times a week. I do 30 min cardio and 30 min weight training. I have been exercising for over 2 weeks and no weight loss so I know it's my diet. I am hoping I wil pick up some good dieting tips from others to help me shed the 50 lbs!!!!!

Tawanna:

I just joined the 50 million pound challenge on 7/07/07. I have seen Dr. Ian Smith everyday on the million pound commercials and I kept telling myself that I needed to join and I finally did it today, thank God. I am in the "over 200 pound club" and I even had a Gastroplasty surgery done Dec. of 2005, almost 3 years ago and during that time I lost a total of only 53 pounds. It was my fault though, I did not exercise the way I was supposed to and started eating bread again. As of now, I have gained back atlease 20-30 pounds due to stress dealing with teenage kids, not working off and on and you name it. I do not get any motivation from family and barely from friends. I am very confident on the outside, but when I am home alone is when it bothers me most. Heart Disease and Diabetes are on both sides of my family tree and I have had a few scares myself. I need help in all areas, especially with motivation for exercising, eating and getting my three teenagers to eat healthy along with me. I want to do it and need to do it for me and my children, so Dr. Smith, somebody, anybody help this desperate, single mom. God Be With Us All.

Lisa:

To Erica - You might need to kick your work-out up a bit. Sometimes, we reach a plateau because our body becomes familiar with the level of exercise we do. If the DVD has another level of exercise you might try that. When I had a personal trainer, she used to make me increase the level from 1 to 3 while I worked on the bike. I hated it, but she said that if my work-out was not challenging I would not be successful. So, I've learned that I have to change my workout when I get comfy by adding more abs or walking outside for an additional 15-20 minutes when I've done my DVD. I eat right, too, but I have to make sure that my portions are not too large. I am also losing weight from a pregnancy and it has taken a lot longer than I anticipated. Before I started the challenge, I lost about 25 pounds. I still have about 30 pounds to go and it has taken about 10 months. Since I started The Challenge in June and I have lost only 3 pounds. We can do this! Be patient.

lisa arnold:

Hello, i am 30 years old, 4"11 and i weigh 178 lbs. i lost my job and i gained 58 lbs in 7 months. I was 120 lbs before i lost my job. I have tried everything but the weight won't come off. I have to loose this 58 lbs b/c it is causing me to be very tired and its hard to breathe and i'm starting to have other health problems. i need a lot of motivation so I would ove to be on your show.

Tomika:

Hello Everyone,
I had totally made up my mind to lose weight, but I really didn't know exactly how I was going to accomplish this mission. Soooo one day I was at a B-Day party and ran into a friend that had lost about 10 pounds I know that’s not a lot, but it sounded and looked good to me. I asked the young lady what was she doing to loose weight and she told me she was doing the Fat Smash Diet. My first question was is the book big and do you have to do a lot of reading before starting the diet. She told me no. I was shocked and went out to purchase the book she was right Dr. Ian gets straight to the point. I started the Fat smash diet June 4 and to the day I have lost 13 pounds. I feel soooo good and I'm walking 4-5 times a week. I decided to give up 30 min. of my lunch and walk instead of going shopping or going out to eat. I'm so happy I decided try this life changing program.

Erica:

Hello. I have a question: I have been on this challenge since about Memorial Day week. I have only lost 7lbs. I do an exercise DVD about 3-4 days a week (it's 40min long), I eat right, I've never eaten pork, I don't eat a lot of red meat, not a lot of starch, I drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruits and veggies. I expect to see more of a weight loss over 6wks that 7lbs. My only other thought is that my body is still recovering from a 2nd trimester loss and won't let me lose a significant amount of weight. Can anyone help? Any suggestions??

deborah:

hi everyone.

please let me start out by say good luck and god bless each and everyone of you.
well, two years ago when i reached 209lbs at 5'4 and really did not look bad, but felt bad. leg swelling and pain. tireness, and cranky. and i read my doctors chart one day, and read where she wrote me in as OBESE. i knew i had to change my lifestyle habits. so i started one wonderful morning. on top of changing my diet, cutting out red meat, (maybe 1 or 2 a month), cutting way back on fried foods and drinking more water, eating my special k, with soy milk when i felt hungrey and specially eating my biggest meal for breakfast and working it off through out the rest of the day. i start walking around the outside of a college track/and field. giving me more distant. walking around it at least three times which gave me a mile and sometimes four times. my weight today is 174. i do my own weigh training at least five days a week and that is stretching my upper body and weight my arms. situps, (long arm situps) and complete leg lift. and i must say i look marvelous. i am 47 and most folks can't believe it. my body is so tone, it really does not look as though i weigh 174. i feel great, and loving me much more everyday of my precious life. and i wish everyone well in this. i still have some ways to go. i don't think i want to be 150lb, because tone or not, i beleive i would look sick. hang in there yall, and tell everybody to get on the band wagon, and to eat right and stop supersizing everything. you know, i love what i have done, because i can maintain my weigh now. but i still have fun, on fridays after dieting for six day and working and excerising, i get to eat, whatever i please. that is a gift from me to me.

Charmaine:

Hello,

I have a question. I have a bad ankle but would like to exercise. Can anyone recommend something that will help get the weight off. Most of the problem is that I am very overweight and my ankle swells.

LadieB:

Hello all,
I have just joined today (7.6.07), but I've lost 12lbs within the last month. I've lost this weight with no exercise thus far. I stopped drinking regular sodas. I now drink diet sodas (limited amounts) and Crystal Light. I also drink about 64oz of water daily. No more candy or sweets. I bake, broil, boil or grill my meats now. Occasionally I will fry some chicken (for hubby), but I pull the skin off even then. I plan on starting my walking/running schedule on Monday 7.9.07. I want to participate in a 5K walk/run in September so I'll be training for that event.

Although I don't know anyone here, I want to encourage each of you to continue to lose the weight!! Not only for yourselves, but for your families and friends. My motivation is that I want to live a long, HEALTHY, life for my husband and future children. I don't think that I'll ever be "thin" but I'm striving for being "healthier".

Thank you Dr. Ian for this challenge to lose weight!

Tee:

Hello Everyone!

This is only my third week, and I have not weighed myself, but I feel a difference. When I use to try to lose weight, I would get obsessed with what the numbers were, no more! I have begun eating breakfast in the morning(something that I haven't really done,) but it helps to control how and what I eat during the day. I have oatmeal for breakfast, a salad for lunch (most day) or a subway sandwich, or leftovers from dinner. I am watching my portion size and I eas a snack in between meals, maybe a fruit, or a gronal bar. Next week I am going to incorporate more veggies in my diet. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week and I do a total of 40 min. I do 15 min on the tread. Walking at least 1.5 miles. Then I do the eliptical machine for another 20 min hoping to get in another 2.00 miles, then I do a 5 min cool down. Some days I don't want to go (but I go anyway) the end result is going to be well worth it.

vincent parker:

I just wanted to send a shout out to Dr.Ian and the Steve Harvey Morning Show and compliment the two concerning the 50 million pounds program. I believe it's a wonderful idea to get people to realize the dangers of being overweight and the benefits of staying in shape. I recently lost 20lbs. just by doing some inexpensive and old fashion jogging-in-place, in the comfort of my basement at my home. When i first started app. 5 weeks ago i could only jog 15 minutes tops, now i'm able to jog for 85 minutes. Losing the extra pounds was great but most importantly, i feel so much happier and healthier. Please share this simple idea with someone else.

Shay:

I hike with my girlfreinds 3 times a week each week we hike a little longer and walk up steeper heels. Ive lost 15 lbs in 2 and a half weeks!

Renee:

I'm taking a water aerobics class 3 days a week and swimming 2 days (just learned how to swim. I'm trying to watch what I'm eating as well. Any suggestions on what else I can do because I feel more of a difference in my body than seeing a difference

TERRI H TRAORE:

Billie Jean:

Something to motivate you when you feeling discourage.

Sometimes I would find myself wanting to just eat the bad food that has all the calories that taste so so good. One thing that has help me to get over it is the following:

When you think about all the hard work you put in to working out and eating right. You say to yourself if I eat that bad thing I am DEFEATING MY PURPOSE TO LOSE WEIGHT AND TO BE HEALTHY.

I have visually attached the word DEFEAT to all the things that cause me to gain weight and to not eat healthy.

When you do this you will find yourself not being tempted by anything that is going to DEFEAT YOUR PURPOSE.

Don't get discourage if you're not losing weight fast. If you doing all the right things you will see and feel the results.

One thing I also discovered the inches I lost does not show on the scale. What is up with that Dr. Ian?

Stay Focus, Stay Positive and Let NO ONE DISCOURAGE YOU.

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Billie Jean:

Hello Everyone,

I have joined the challenge when I also joined a weight management program at my job. Since joining on May 31st I have lost 13 lbs and some inches. My BMI is still in the overweight area and because of that I have to lose an additional 27 lbs to be in the healthy weight area. So far I have been losing from 1 to 4 lbs a week and this depends on how I am working out and what I am eating that week. The one thing that has helped me is I walk 6 miles three times a week and in between that I am doing my turbo jam and slim in 6 workouts. The workouts dvds are body friendly and because of that I look forward to working out. I say to everyone take it one day at a time and stay focused. Another tip that has helped me is planning meals and completely staying away from fast food restaurants. I also had to break up with the regular drinks and junk foods. I now eat Chi-Chi's Tortilla Chips and Salsa as an alternative to the regular chips. Try it when you need something to snack on. I am getting in the habit of drinking more water. Often I would add a Crystal Light To Go mix to give my water flavor without the calories. I wish all the other challengers much success. God Bless You All.

Talisha:

Hello:

I started "the challenge" on June the 6th and purchased Dr. Ian's Fat Smash diet book and OMG I have been following it step by step in conjunction with working out at least 4 to five times a week at 30 minute increments. Yall I have lost a total of 10 lbs thus far 7/4/07. Today is the 4th of July and it is the begginning of my self proclaimed independence from being over 200 lbs I am not a part of the under 200 club. This program is so easy for me I love it...Thanks Dr. Ian

Katrina A. Wright:

Hello everyone I am a 50 year old female in very good shape, however I want to stay that way.My regime for exercising is 1)sweating in the spirit with Donna Joyner Richardson 2-3 times a week, use AB lounger at 3 times a week first thing in the morning and use the treadmill as often as I can. I eat properly no red meat no pork and no sweets I must say I look good for my age. I maintain my body weight of 169, however I want to be at 149-155 and not look skinny. I am working on this weight goal by doing all of the above regularly. I am so proud of being a part of the 50million pound challeng. I will continue to pray for everyone's strength in the Lord during this challenge period. God Bless and stay healthy.

Katrina.

Katrina A. Wright:

Hello everyone I pray for good health for all. My regime includes sweating in the spirit with Donna Joyner Richardson 2-3 times per week for at least 20mins. I also make it a habit to get on the AB lounger at least 3 times a week first thing in the morning also I use the treadmill as often as I can. My future plan is to start a daily walk around a track I will gradually work my speed and time. I have maintained a decent body weight for my height, however there is a little fat around the middle that I am tackling I refuse to allow that to keep me from looking and feeling good about myself I eat properly stay away from junk foods, bread, rice and potatoes which is hard since I love french fries but I pray for strength and I know that I will be where I want to be very shortly without wearing something to hold me down. Oh yes I stay away from red meats and pork I do remember to give my body the proteins it needs such as nuts and beans I eat plenty of veggies. I am glad to be a part of the 50 million pound challenge. I pray for all our strengths in the Lord...

Jay:

Man, the thing that's workin for me is just that good ole track...doing 2.5 miles a day I try and go out there wen no 1 else is there so I can run at my own pace. With no 1 there I do not feel obligated to show off, or impress any one. I just say run your own race regardless of the circumstance! The way I stay motivated is knowing that this is allll 4 me and no one else! Trying to be the best me possible. I've lost 19 got a lot 2 go. Yall stay encouraged and remeber each day its gets a little easier and u r that much closer 2 your goal!

Anne:

I have been working for a while trying to lose the pounds. Weight lose stop at 5 pounds. I was disappointed until I realized that I was losing a inches. I have since stop looking at the scale and started concentrating on the measuring tape. So, if you do not see the pound disappearing get a measuring tape and keep track on the inches aroung the bust, hip, bicep and thighs. You may be surprise.

Tai:

I just joined yesterday. I wanted to join because although I don't know any of you, I feel like you're my accountability partners. I've been yo-yo dieting for years, but I've noticed since I became pesco vegetarian in September 2006 I've put on some weight because I rely too much on carbs. I want to be healthy and enegetic. At my current weight, I feel very sluggish. I am approx. 25 lbs lighter than I was in 2004, but I need to lose at least 35 more lbs. On the positive side, after reading the blogs last night I did get up and do one of my The Firm videos and I've written out my meal plan for today. Wow, it's been a long time since I've been excited about exercising and eating right but I feel good about this.

YOLANDE TYRELL:

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO B IN NEW YORK AND I WOULD LIKE SOME SUPPORT IN LOOSING SOME WEIGHT. I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT AS I AM IN MY 40'S AND THE WEIGHT SEEM MUCH HARDER TO LOOSE.

EJ:

Hey everyone,

I will start the challenge tomorrow, 7/2/07. Since having my two children back to back one in 2005 and the other in 2006, I have gained 70pnds. and I am determined to shed them. I plan on working out at least 3 times a week to start while sticking mainly to fruits and vegetables throughout the day with a sensible meal. I will let everyone know how it is going at the end of the week :o)

Bernadine:

Hello,

I am going to use this challenge to help me lose 20 pounds in time for our family reunion cruise in September. I have 12 weeks until the cruise.

Good Luck All!!!

nakia:

I am 31 and need some motivation. I start dieting fads and after a few weeks sometimes less i'm not motivated. Both of my parents are diabetics and have high blood pressure i would like to lose weight so weight will not be a factor. I need some encouragement....

Ms. Tea:

I just joined today, after hearing about the challenge on T.V. I'm stoked to get started. I'm 50 y/o and weight as much as I did when I had my last child 20 years ago. I recently went to my doctor and she just told me I was fat. No tack, no sugar coat , just fat. So, I've made a commitment to myself to lose the weight. I'm hoping by joining this site I can stay on track. My workout schedule has not been set yet. But I will be working on that today. Keep it Movin Ya'll and Good Luck. See you soon..

Julie:

Hi! This is Julie. I have a great Treadmill work-out for you guys. First, I do interval training for the first mile. This work-out consists of a 3-minute warm-up (walk at 3.0 - 3.5 RPM), 1-minute slow jog (4.0 - 5.0), and one-minute sprint (6.5 - 8.0). After you complete the warm-up, continue with the 1-minute intervals of slow jogging and sprints for one mile. Beginning your second mile, do another 3-minute cool down to bring your heart rate down. Increase incline to 7.5 - 15.0 elevation (I usually use 15.0 incline). For the next 0.25 mile you will do incline training. Set RPM to 2.5 (Pretend you are climbing a mountain!) Count by one when your left foot hits the treadmill for 25 counts. Next, you will side step (on each side) for 25 counts using the same counting method. Next, you will walk backwards (regular steps) for 15 steps, (ski stance walk) for 15 steps, (wide step walk) for 15 steps, then (regular walk) for 15 steps. Repeat this sequence to complete 0.25 miles. Decrease incline to 0.0 elevation and increase RPM to 3.0 and begin interval training once again for 0.50 miles. To complete this training, repeat sequence of incline training twice then return to 3.0 RPM for cool-down decreasing to 1.5 RPM. Do a few lunge walks then cool-down for 3 to 4 minutes. You may have to curtail to fit your fitness level, stamina, and endurance. Will give you nice, toned legs, and will burn calories like crazy. Always remember to hydrate yourself before, during, and after exercise. Also, before trying a new work-out, consult your physician. Try to encorporate this treadmill training into your weekly work-out plan (at least 3 days out of the week minimum). I will share more of my work-out plans and training with you.

Cassandra:

I signed up for the challenge in early May. But it was not until about 2 weeks ago that I made up my mind to get serious about my health and well being. I have an 18 year old daughter who just graduated from high school and a 3 year old son. (10 yr. and 14 yr. old in between). Im very active in their lives and their events and I want to give my 3 year old the same love. Over the past 10 years I have gained about 100lbs. Mostly between school and working night shift. I realize that I have a challenge ahead of me. Instead of making large goals which may seem too unrealistic I have made small goals. (I am a fan of celebrity fit club). I started my challenge officially last week using Dr. Ian's book Extreme Fat Smash as a guide. I met my first week's goal of 4lbs. I am in cycle 2. I am always on the go. So I usually take 2 of my meals from McDonald's dollar menu. My morning meal when allowed is lowfat yogurt and fruit (small parfait). Lunch is small salad (side salad). When Im allowed meat I get the grilled chicken only (no bread). I have change my way of eating by eating only brown rice when allowed. and so forth. Although I do have a gym membership I am not always allowed to get there. So I made me a workout plan which I do first thing in am after giving thanks to God. I also repeat the workout in the evening if I dont make it to the gym. I walk more and stopped looking for close parking spaces. I never really gave any diet a chance so I can't really say that none worked for me. My challenge is remembering to eat. Because I sometimes get caught up in my activities and forget to eat. I am woking on this. I also have an issue with drinking water. This is another issue I am working through. I really enjoy the support of this website.

Shantta aka Sheera:

Hello People,
My name is Shantta aka Sheera "For the Survivor for Me". I've just signed up for the program and I'm looking for it to really do wonders for me. I have lupus so I may not be able to work out as much as u guys have but I've committed to doing a 3 mile walk 3 times a week along with 100 situps a day for my (3 child bearing) baby belly. U know what I'm talkin' bout, mothers! Well, good luck and even better weight loss & health to all of you!!

Keishla:

Last year I made the commitment to lost nearly 100 lbs. At the time I weighed in at 245lbs. I started Weight Wathcers and had really good success losing 30 lbs in about 5 months. Then I started going off-program, and I gained abck 18 lbs. So a few weeks ago after hearing about the challenge, I went back to WW and I have lost a little over 6 lbs.

I also started a workout program called Couch to 5K. You can find info about it on coolrunning.com. There is also a great podcast that is available on iTunes that talks you through every part of the workout from warm-up to cooldown. I am just about finished with week one and I feel good about it. I will start adding strength training to my regimen.

Keilo Lawson:

I'm a thirty three year old black man and I've been working out for about ten years now. I just recently started a new job that requires putting in a LOT of overtime. Needless to say, my weight has increased from 200lbs. to 225lbs. in four months.
Me and some guys at work are in a competition to see who can lose the most weight in a month. So far Ive lost eight pounds. I attribute my weight loss to decreasing my fried food intake, eating more green vegetables, and drinking a lot more water.
I walk at least twice a week for about a mile and run once a week for about the same distance. Afterwards, I do ten sets of pull-ups, dips, and stomache work. I was supersetting this with different dumbbell routines to work on my arms and shoulders. I recently purchased the Bowflex Extreme 2 workout machine so I'll be posting updates on my improvement.
To all that are participating I wish you the best of luck, keep your faith in yourself and God and things will DEFINITELY get better! Stay focused!!

De'Leacia:

Hello sexy people!

I have been struggling with my weight since I had my first baby. That was 11 yrs ago. I'd take diet pills for a few months after I give birth, drop all the weight. Within 2 yrs it would come back. We'd get pregnant again and the cycle starts all over. The fact that my husband for some reason prefers the "jiggly booty me" has not helped. But I am now ready to get the weight off and keep it off. Not because I want to look hot but so that I am healthy for myself, my children, and my husband. It will be 2 weeks on 7/2 since I started cutting back on sugar and fats. But what I think has made the difference is that I do 10 flights of stairs twice a day, 5 days a week. I actually do them 4 times if I have to have a 3 Muskateers that day. You girls know what I mean when I say there is a certain time of the month that dieting is harder than any other time. But since I started doing that I have lost 5.5 pounds in the past 2 weeks. I am proud of myself. That is a wonderful feeling. Rocky Balboa baby!

Jessica:

Ok ... this whole weight loss thing is really tough for me. I've been struggling with it for a few years now. I signed up for the program today (June 29) and I called and got a trainer at 24 Hour Fitness. My problem is that I get discouraged very easily. I tried WeightWatchers @ work, but I'm not all that comfortable discussing my weight issues verbally or with people that I have to work with. Anyways, I was hoping that by coming on here, I would get the inspiration from others but still be within my comfort zone. Ideally, I would love to lose about 40 pounds. I signed up for 28. If I can break past my plateau of the first 8 lbs (I always get stuck at a certain weight), then I think i would be able to stay motivated. So, I've decided to jump back on the bandwagon and get going. You all's success stories have really motivated me. Hopefully I can have one of my own sometime in the near future.

Joe:

When I first got married, I gained weight. My wife can really cook (food too :) ). So after seeing myself in a picture I decided I couldn't take being close to 200 lbs. I was always a little overweight growing up, but in high schoo lost 40 lbs my Sr. year and maintained that weight througout college and up until marriage at age 25. I lost weight in an unhealthy manner in H.S. by just not eating everyday. I'd drink a coke for lunch and eat 3 cookies for dinner to "spoil my appetite" and it worked. One thing I learned is that people that are overweight are treated differntly.

Anyway, to lose weight the healthy way, I started eating a high fiber low fat breakfast. I eat Total Raisin Bran (but I take the raisins out because they have sugar on them) w/ fat free milk. I eat a nice size serving of it in a big cup which I eat whil driving to work. I drink at least 90 oz of water a day and ***here's what accelerated the weight loss*** did an hour on the stair climber everyday. I lost 40 lbs down to my ideal size.

I still do an hour on the stairclimber about 3 times a week now and am not trying to lose anymore weight, and still eat TRB without the raisin's every morning. TRB has more fiber than regular Total.

It can be done and you'll be happy and feel good about yourself when your friends start asking you how you lost weight.

Timeeka:

Hi All, my name is Timeeka let me start off by saying I've been battling weight loss for over 5 years. I get bored VERY EASILY. I'm a very active person, handball, volleyball and swimming. I work 2 jobs (the day goes by so fast) and raise a son. I'm from NYC and looking for a walking buddy. Or a weight loss buddy we can share recipes, weight loss strategies. I have to remember that one day @ a time is best. Weight loss is not a overnite battle. When we pull together we can accomplish anything!!!!!

Sonya:

All my life i've always had problems with my weight, i never wore a size under 18. Well one day I prayed and then I went to work and we began a biggest loser program. Then that very same day which was March 26, 2007 I was listening to Steve Harvey and Dr. Ian was on. That was enough confirmation for me. I began a daily workout everyday of Taebo for 40 min. Then i would do 20 min. of upper and lower cardio. Then in the afternoon everyday after work I would walk for about 4 miles. Now to date, I've lost 34lbs. and still losing. I also stepped up my excerise and began jogging. I walk a block and then I jog a block and I do this everyday. So the key to losing weight i believe is exercise and eatting in moderation.

Faith:

Hi I've reached my 1/4th goal today of 25 lbs lost. It's taken me since March. When I started I imagined that since I was on an exercise program of weight training and the ocassional cario that I could modify eating but that the exercise would take me to my goal. Was I fooling myself. Today, my eating has changed though I do find myself on the ocassional treating self (I do know this needs to be tempered otherwise I'll be back at square one) to less carbs, three meals daily that limit sugar, 4 oz of meat (poultry and fish) and no more than 1 day of beef, and limited fruit (too much sugar). It feels great to have clothes be comfortable and large as well as fit into items that have been in the closet as new but would not previously fit. I'm looking forward to hearing more of other's success!

Danielle :

Hi everyone,
I am a 19 year old college student and I have read all of the comments thus far. It is really inspiring to see the black community coming out in droves to step up to the challenge of losing weight. Some of my friends and I are overweight ourselves and we always say we are going to lose weight over the summer and come back to school with a new look. Well it hasnt been happening so we decided that we have to put an end to this situation. We have been procrastinating and saying we will sooner or later. I feel like we are too young to be at risk like we are. You guys have really been an inspiration and we will post back with our results.

sylvia:

Hi! my name is sylvia. I want to lose 40lb's, I have an AB Lounger,5lbsweight's 10lbs weights, I walk for 2 hours a day, four times a week, I took out every thing that was white, rice, sugar, bread, pasta's, I replaced them with things such as whole wheat, brown eggs, brown rice. You have to watch your portions. If you dont know how just use your fist per item, and watch your calorie intake.read lables before you buy,if a lable has more than 3to4 ingredients don't buy the item.the item should be natural and non of that processed stuff. try eating the same thing for a month.breakfast oatmeal,a fruit, soy milk or bottled water. snack, hand full of nuts or a yogurt, lunch, medium salmon salad, bottled water, dinner, baked tilapia, brown rice, stirfried vegetable/olive oil, bottled water.remember u can over do your calories on things that are healthy for you so you still have to watch your portions and calories.

Dawn:

Hey,

I use to be 275 until I found LA Weight loss and like others I gained the pounds back (262 when I started the challenge) but kept most of the inches off(went from size 22 to 18). I was at wits end ready to get the lap band but decided I have to do this not a device or a surgeon. My goal is 200 I was never a small girl and I don't want to look sickly if I can get back into a sie 14 comfortably I be good. What I do for exercise and meal plans is I walk 2 to 3 times a week 2 miles and I do water aerobics 2x a week. When it comes to food I love my sweets but they had to go. I eat a fruit or 2 boiled eggs in the morning & for lunch grilled chicken or salad with fruit. My dinner is meat no larger than the palm of my hand ,veggies & either a baked yam, potato or brown rice. I drink plenty of water & 1 bottle with water and fresh squeezed lemon. I tease my sister becasue she is getting married and I didn't want to be the biggest one in the wedding party so I said i'm on the Brides Maid Diet. I HAVE LOST 12LBS AND 45 MORE TO GO!!!

Anonymous:

I have just signed up for the challenge. Dr. Ian I am so proud that you have took on the challenge to challege us, I THANK YOU! I have been struggling with weight loss since my baby was born, who is now 12 years old. I am still carring baby fat, plus some. I am 6'1 and top the scale at 292 lbs, my heaviest. I carry my weight very well, but I really do want to lose 92 lbs. as I am 40 years old and it's more of a challenge at this age then when I was 20 years old. I realize it will take time and consistency. What is helping me to stay focused on my weight goal is writing positive affirmations and repeating them daily. I power walk at least 3 times a week at a track in my neighborhood plus I also commute by Amtrack and Metro trains 5 days a week to and from work. Eating the wrong foods on the go has been my issue. I have now changed my eating pattern to healthy choices. Please pray for me as I take on this challenge to reach my personal goal! I am very motivated! I wish Everyone Success!

Erica:

Zee, you can eat bread! We all know that if we try to restrict our diet and say we arent going to eat certain foods, our bodies will crave it! Instead, make a promise not to eat as much bread and if you eat bread, make it a multi-grain bread. If you like me, love white bread, I found that Natures Own makes a WhiteWheat bread that is very good and high in fiber! I find that cutting down my portions has helped as well as not drinking as much soda. I dont BUY soda to keep in my fridge anymore, i only purchase DIET and Water and maybe orange juice and fruit punch - which I limit because its high in sugar. I hate yogurt, its disgusting to me! So I have a bowl of CornFlakes or Cheerios for breakfast, a green salad with light dressing for lunch,(McDonalds makes a GREAT Bacon-Ranch salad!) and a sensible dinner. Most times its something baked or grilled, but I cant shake an occasional urge for fried chicken or a porkchop! But I eat one instead of two! Or two instead of four, with brown rice and veggies. I have begun to walk 30 min. per day at the high school track w/my 4 year old daughter.. Hopefully I lose soon! My weight fluctuates between 195-200 lbs. I keep losing and gaining it back. I really want to lose 25 lbs!

Looking for help:

Hello 50 Million Pound Comm

I just signed up yesterday and I have sign a contract with a friend of minds to lose 50lbs. I have been thick all my life but it really hit me that I am obese when I couldn't get on a ride with my child. That was the last straw for me. I have little to no wheel power but I am going to really try to get some of this weight off me.
If anyone has a plan that is working for them please send it over to me.

Signed

Hey everyone!I just started today and I'm really hoping I can lose 45lbs.I've always been heavy and for once in my life I want to be thin and able to buy any clothes I want to. I've tried many fad diets in the past and have lost weight but I always gain back more than what I lost. This time I'm gonna try making lifestyle changes and hopefully it will stay off.I wanna feel like I'm sexy. Wish me luck! And good luck to all of you!!!

LaToya:

Hi everybody,

I've just signed up for the program and very excited about losing weight. I have been working out in the mornings and trust I do enjoy, but I wish I had more time to work out in the afternoons, hopefuuly I will very soon. Rather than that I am also trying to lose weight just like everyone else and on my first day I just want to wish everyone good luck and I hope you all get the results you are looking for.

God Bless!!!

Shannon:

After a month of really being commited to a healthy lifestyle I have lost 25 pounds. I find that if you set small goals for yourself things work better. Especially if you are like me (I have to see my results) in order to stay motivated. The main thing I did is cut out soda and I walk with my mother 4 times a week. Right now I have a sinus infection and I have not been walking at all this week and for the 1st time I actually feel guilty about missing my workout. Along with my walking I do 100-200 crunches a day, 50-100 squats a day, Fluidity and Tae Bo (I alternate weekends). Just like everybody I fall short some days but I always stay motivated and I get right back on track the next day. So good luck to everyone trying to become healthier people. It's not easy but it's worth it.

Pat:

HI,
I signed up May 23, 2007 and instead of losing I gained 4lbs. Dr. Ian sent a message to me and I decided to get serious. I have since started the 90 day makeover plan. I did it before and lost 30lbs but gained it back. This time it is different. I have always walked but I didn't change my eating habits. I started on June 25 and so far I have lost 3.5lbs. I walk every day for 45mins to an hour. On weekends I try to walk for 2 to 3 hours. I am also in training for a half marathon in October. I will keep posting so that I won't quit fighting. Wish me luck!

shawnna :

i just started today and really excited. I've started so many diets, but i'm really ready to committ, and i'm glad that i have all of you to start my journey

Carmen:

Hi everyone!!! I have been at it but I am looking for someone that can workout with me..So if your in Atlanta close to 30078 area code and a L A Fitness member please send a message looking for someone that can workout with me...I'm not sexist but looking for only women partners....

I joined a gym close to my house that has many different classes I can take. On Mondays i do kickboxing and pilates which are amazing. tuesdays are when I usually recover and on Wednesdays I take bellydancing, and an abs class, Thursdays i do an hour of cardio and weight training and Fridays I usually just run or workout at the gym. Some Fridays I am recovering from the weight training. My diet is low carbs because that is the easiest for me to do. I started my diet little more than a month ago and I lost over 16 pounds. I saw Dr.Ian on the BET awards last night and decided to keep the updates on here to keep me from cheating on my diet. Swim team starts in a week for me, and i have practices everyday twice a day :D So I am hoping that everything works out for me.

me&my2:

I just got signed up today and I'm very excited. Wish me luck, I'll keep you guys posted.

Eboni:

For the past three weeks I have been doing cardio at the gym 6 times a week for about 40 minutes. I also do some weight lifting. So far I have lost 9 pounds. Im trying to lose weight the right way this time so I wont gain all the weight back. I have 30 more punds to go!!!

Myisha:

Hey All.

I started working out(again) on 6/25 and then I saw Dr. Ian on the BET awards last night and thought this would be a great opportunity for me, my family and my community. I'm really excited and am thinking of purchasing Dr. Ian's book as my eating habits are is harder for me than working out. It really motivates me that this is something geared to our community! Anywhoo, I'll check back next Monday hopefully with some weight loss. :) Essence Magazine has great quick dinners recipes w/shopping list in the back of every issue that taste good and give you calorie/fat count. Might help for those who need help with diet plan.

Freda:

I started my weight loss regimen on June 4th and just signed up for the Challenge today. I am not only doing this for me, but for my 12-year old son. We have started a healthy eating plan and workout routine. I do approximately 20-25 minutes on the treadmill 3 to 4 days a week (Hope to increase to about 45 minutes). I hope to incorporate some additional exercises and weight training later. I have lost about 9 pounds so far. I have cut out sodas, fried foods and sweets. Our diet consists of fruit, vegetables, chicken and turkey and lots of water. I do allow for a "cheat" day but it is in moderation. Reading the other posts on this site is giving me additional ideas and is very motivating. Happy, healthy living to everyone!!!

Also I have began to walk to two dogs at lest three times a day. I use to tie them up outside to do their business now I take them on short walks. I have stop eating after 6pm, hopefully my small changes will result in more pounds lost. I will keep you posted.

Maci:

Hi everyone!

For my workout, I do 20 minutes of jump rope, then I dance for 10 minutes, and to end it I walk stairs for 5 minutes. I do those things almost everyday. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday I do 6 differnt types of weight lifting. Hopefully this will help someone out!
Good luck guys!

Regina:

I am so motivated. Yesterday was my birthday and I went walking in the morning and to the gym in the afternoon. I tried to talk myself into not going just because but I know that if I keep this up, by my next birthday, I will be so fine and proud.

Good luck to all.

Mi reina:

You know I am getting so discouraged, the harder I work out the less results I am seeing. I am so worried about my health I am going stir crazy I don't know what else to do. I have changed our eating habits for the best, plenty of fresh veggies and fruits. Maybe they are the wrong ones? I am going to give it another go because I have to do this if I want to stay alive so while I sign up for this challenge I ask that my community prays for me that I am succusseful this time.

lekisha wade:

MaShell:

I live in Georgia and I think this is an excellent idea! I signed on to 50 million pounds today (June 26) and would like to lose 16 pounds. I try to get to the gym 3-4 days a week. My workout consists of between 20-30 minutes on the elliptical which burns more calories per minute than the treadmill. I also do about 30 minutes on weights. I try to drink the water, eat more fiber (Fiber 1 cereal is a great way to get your 25 grams of fiber per day). I've cut down on my sweets, am cutting back on my coffee, eat frozen meals since I don't cook, rarely go to fast food places, rarely eat red meat -- prefer turkey (love ground turkey patties). GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!

DAUN REDMOND:

Mikki:

Last week I really decided to crack down on my diet. I try to eat Corn Flakes/dried fruit with Skim Milk for Breakfast, A sensible lunch with tons of veggies and a light dinner. It helps to keep granola bars and low fat yogurt available for low cal filling snacks. After one week I've lost one percent of my body fat and about 2 lbs. Just 58lbs left to go!!!

monique:

I have been doing a lot of treadmill exercise. I work at home and have several short 30 min breaks throughout the day. I use to sit and watch tv, now i use my time on the treadmill. Of course, i am shedding pounds but it helps in so many other way. In just 2wks i have increased my stamina to do 60 to 80min daily. It has been very beneficial in my overall routine. Im glad ive gotten the motivation to put exercise back in my life!

Michelle:

I'm 36 years old, a little over 5'7" and weigh 174lbs; the heaviest I've been in 15 years. I work out consistantly (min. 3 days a week) and eat well (including -no red meat, pork, white flour, refined sugar, or alcohol). But I'm still gaining weight!!! Should I increase my workout? Eat less? I don't work out with weights so I don't think it's muscle. I joined 50 Million Pound today for support. I'm confused and need guidance.

Cherjuana Morton:

My mom, my daughter and myself all workout together. We have a cd that has every slide you can think of as well as "Ain't no call like a booty call". We do arobics and the electric slide for 30 minutes to an hour 3 times per week. We also walk 1 mile every day.

Wayne Tribble:

I'm having problems keeping up with my workout schedule because of my busy career... What can I do? I get 10 pounds off, tone up, define my body, and then get in a traveling mode, where I'm overseas 2 - 3 weeks at a time. When this happens I fall off the band-wagon... Any suggestions on how I can keep my 4-6 day work-out schedule while on the road? Please help.....

Delia :

hi everyone.

My 11lb at birth son will be 2yrs in Aug and i'm still carrying about 15 extra pounds. It's time to let it go! I have been packing lunches to work and walking as much as possible during my lunch hour. My mp3 keeps me motivated during my workouts at the gym 3 or 4 times a week. I have also been eating lots of fruits and learning to say no to some of those dinner invitations. So far I've lost 5lbs and and feel much more confident. I can't wait to fit into those old and favortie jeans!

LMCCLINTON:

IVE STARTED MY WEIGHT LOST PROGRAM SATURDAY THE 22, AND IM IN NEED OF SHEDDING 22LBS. IVE READ YOUR TESTOMIES AND JUST GOT A GREAT MOTIVATION. ILL HOLLA BACK IN A WEEK AND SHARE MY WEIGHT LOST UP TO DATE.

Rochel:

Hey everyone, it took me a long time to get to this point. My youngest child is 20 years old, and I have not seen a size 10 since. Over the years I lost weight a few times getting down to a size 12 at times but only to gain all the weight back and more and I am tired, on June 4th 2007 I began my challenge to get healthy and in shape since than I have lost 12 pounds and I will stay on track this time until I reach my goal. Congratulations to all of your success, and keep focus on your goals. don't give up if you have a bad day.

Charlene Hall:

I have lost 22 pounds since May 7th so far by walking in the mornings for 45 min with my mom and going to the gym and walking on the treadmill for 60 mins. I bought an IPod and I have found this to be a very good motivator. I also do a little weight resistant but for the most part I have just been walking. I also have cut my calories, I don't count them but I do know they have been cut in half. I swore off sweets because this is my weakness. A slim fast shake in the morning, a salad for lunch, and a normal dinner. I have cut out sodas completely from my diet and all I drink is water. I feel good about myself but I still have a long way to go another 35 pounds will make me happy and be at my healthy weight. It is hard and I have made a conscious decision to think about everything that passes by my mouth and I taste all of my food.

Hannah :

I do pilates and walk with my mom and sister 5 days a week. I found that having people to exercise with keeps motivation high. I dont eat fried food and I no longer eat fast foods. However, i do make room to have fun. On the weekend, normally Saturday, i will eat something that i would stay away from during the week. By doing this, i see that i can have more determination during the week and eat better knowing that i wouldnt have to sacrifice anything while i go out one day on the weekend.

Tanya:

Hey Everybody,

My name is Tanya and I signed up for the challenge as well. I have cut down on portions and am running on the treadmill, weight training, and using my ab lounger. I feel 10 pounds lighter! LOL!! I started my program last week, but at the end of this week, I'll let you know how many pounds I have lost. This is the first time that I have used this kind of site, but I have read the comments and see that a number of you are really applying yourselves. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but when you go shopping for clothes and try on sizes you could never get into before, it is well worth it!

Robyn:

Since I get bored with my workouts, I try to mix it up with various exercise tapes, such as Taebo, Walking Away the Pounds, and Bellydancing for Abs. I walk 2 miles around my community/neighborhood. A month ago, I started walking at lunchtime. I was taking the stair until building management locked the stairwell for safety/security reason. I have a about a 5 to 8 minute walk from the subway to work. I average about 10,000 steps per day. I eliminated cheese (it helps that I am lactose intolerant) and fried foods from my meals. I've cut back my portions at mealtime. All other foods and beverages, i.e. desserts/wine are consumed in moderation.

cornell5:

I workout for an hour a day five days a week. 1/2 hour on the treadmill and 1/2 hour on the ellipitcal machine with the "gargabe bag type" sweatsuit on. It has been only two weeks but I feel better already!!!

My routine includes a 2 mile brisk walk 4-5 days per week, a light upper body workout with 100 crunches a day, and the Weight Watchers Flexplan. I joined the program six days ago and I've lost 2 pounds and my abs are changing!

Dayna:

My routine fits around my busy schedule. I get up a 1/2 earlier for a cardio workout. I drink 2 bottles of water 1 before working out and 1 after. I then eat a fruit (apple, orange or grapefruit). What I've done is eat small meals every two hours and my last meal is before 8pm even when I am up late. I've totally cut out the soda as well as fried foods for now, which I think has had a major impact on my weight loss. I have 5lbs to go and I'm excited!!!!

Sharon:

I've been walking 4 days a wk and weight training 2 days a week and so far 13 lbs.

I've cut back on my size portions, cut out mix drinks now only 4 fingers of cognac on the weekend and no more than 2 lite beers. Plus drinking 64 ozs of water a day.

Tamaya:

I am doing turbo jam, eating brown rice instead of white. I take the stairs instead of the elvator and also run and walk with my friend. It is going well. I have lost 8 pounds so far.
