Plan ahead for a busy day. This is critical if you want to be successful on the diet. If you're going to be busy at work and you know it might be difficult consuming all your meals at the right times, bring some healthy snacks that you can keep at your desk or in your locker. Try a small box of raisins, a small fruit cup, a couple of whole wheat crackers, a hard-boiled egg, or instant vegetable soup. Planning ahead will prevent you from giving in to the temptation of visiting the sugar-filled vending machine. This will save a lot of unnecessary calories!
Despite what you might believe or have heard, skipping meals will not help you lose weight faster; it actually shuts down your metabolism and your energy drops. Try eating small meals or healthy snacks every three hours to increase your metabolism. Portion-controlled meals will help you keep your energy up and assist you in losing weight.
Set yourself up to make healthy decisions-develop eating and exercising habits that complement your busy schedule. Take the time to plan ahead! Best ~ Dr. Ian

I work from 4:00 am to about 12:00 pm. What should my meal schedule be?

DR. IAN,
I'VE LISTENED TO THE CHALLENGE ON THE STEVE HARVEY MORNING SHOW SINCE THE BEGINNING AND TO THIS DAY I AM SCARED OUT OF MY MIND. I AM A 29 YEAR OLD FEMALE 5FT 6IN AND 198LBS. EVERYONE WHO TRIES TO GUESS MY WEIGHT HAS NEVER GONE OVER 150. I DON'T LOOK MY WEIGHT BUT BEING AROUND PEOPLE THAT SAW ME ALL THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE (ESPECIALLY MY FAMILY) CONSTANTLY REMINDING ME OF HOW "BIG" I'M GETTING HAS TAKEN A MAJOR TOLL ON ME. THE DOCTORS SAY THAT BECAUSE I'M TOP HEAVY AND CONSTANTLY WORK ON TONING, MUSCLES CAN BE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS FOR MY WEIGHT BEING WHERE IT IS. PLEASE HELP. I WANT TO BE A HEALTHIER/HAPPIER PERSON BUT AS OF NOW, LOOKING AT THE BMI INDEX I'M NEITHER.

I believe if you place Crystal Lite in selzer water you can cover a craving for sodas. I don't know that much more about curbing your sweet tooth - I would like a way to stop eating/snacking when you wake from your sleep. Does this mean that your sugar level drops? I wake up and get something sweet (or anything) and return back to sleep - what is that about?

Dr. Ian,
Is there a particular brand fruit cup I can purchase? I thought they were loaded with sugar. I really need options for my sweet tooth. I love chips and cookies. Help!
