Set weekly exercise goals

Too often we get bogged down with long-term goals. One of the best ways to succeed on an exercise program is to set weekly goals. There are all kinds of attainable goals you can set: complete four 45-minute workouts, ride 3 miles on a bicycle during 3 different sessions, jog for half of the time you would spend on the treadmill. The idea is to set smaller goals each week so that they will help you build to your larger goals. If you reach your goals for the week, treat yourself to a reward such as a massage or a new top you’ve been eyeing for your wardrobe.

Be realistic with yourself as you work on your weight loss target. Develop attainable, intermediate goals and build up successes that motivate you to keep going. Encourage yourself and others you know on The Challenge to create a rhythm, and commit to the steps that lead you to your desired results.

Salutations!
I just want to chime in to wish each and every one of you good luck with your weight loss challenge. I know how hard it can be to put down that extra slice of pizza or to not choose pizza at all. Also, exercising sometimes feels like an impossible task (especially if you have children or a hectic life). But please be and stay encouraged! We are a beautiful people with the will and power to do all things through the grace and stengthening of our Lord. So remember to keep (or start) journaling, get moving and choose healthy meals over junk food. Stay blessed!

Danielle Williams:

Hello! I am a wife and mother of three and will be 34 next month. I just gave birth to my daughter 2 months ago. I am already anxious and determined to get rid of this baby weight. There's no use in letting this extra fat marinate any longer. I know the longer I wait, the harder this task will be. And like they say, why put off until tommorow, what you can do today? I'm going to shed these last 20 lbs!!! I wish everyone the best of luck! God bless!!!

nomoreextraskin:

8-23-07 Hello! This is my first day joining. I am so excited about the 50mil lb challenge! After my fourth child I weighed 185 lbs. Today I weighed in at 181 lbs! It's been 8 months since I have had my baby. Slowly I'm getting to my weight goal of 160 lbs. Family and friends often say I don't look my current weight but the scales don't lie! It's all in the hips, butt and gut! I'm drinking water before meals, walking with light jogging and crunches. Also milk and low fat yogurt have helped trim my waistline, which has made my butt look bigger. I have a long way to go, but I won't give up! I didn't gain it over night and I won't lose it overnight!

Ladies lets do this. With the help of all of us we can get back to being healthy

This is in response to a post from fatassi ...
2000 steps is equivalent to 1 mi. It's been published that one should target to make 10,000 steps per day. This takes a lot of work to get up to. I can't do it without doing major time on the elliptical myself but use the 10k as a target and try to do more and more each day. Every little bit helps!

mimmos:

Hello,
I am 5'5" and I weigh 140. Since last January I lost 50 lbs. I am trying to keep my weight off. I keep my portions small and continue to walk 5 days a week. My problem is my sweet tooth. Does anyone have suggestions on how to beat the sugar habit?
Thanks

The Pedometer - how do you calculate the numbers on the pedometer?

What constitutes 1 mile of walking? Please help, ASAP.

Thank you.

Sharyn Israel:

Hi my name is Sharyn. I heard about the 50 million pound challenge from our local radio station. I am 52 years old 5'2 and my starting weight was 225. I have lost 12lbs. and am determined to reach my goal weight of 140. I have started other weight loss programs but stopped when the weight didn't fall off fast enough. This time seems different. I walk 3 miles a day and have made several changes in my eating habits. I am taking it one day at a time and would like to reach my goal weight by June 2008. I believe in myself and want to be healthy for myself and my family.

Kortney:

I've just recently began a weight loss program. I'm really excited about what it offers. It's better for me to follow a protocol rather than entering the gym with no routine at all. I am aware that it's all a mind game. However, I love to know that I've accomplished the set amount of work required. Once I've done that, I can add more to it if I choose to. As far as my eating habits, I've chosen to cut back on sodas, starchy foods, grease, and sauces. I've picked up a good habit of drinking water, eating fruits and vegetables, grilling my meats, and eating breakfast. I eat regularly but in small portions. I've learned that eating salads all day is not the key to a healthy weight loss. Depriving yourself of the adequate nutrition interupts normal brain function. I've also invested in multivitamins.

I'm 5 feet and 8 inches tall. I weigh 201 pounds. My overall goal is to lose 41 pounds. However, I've chosen to break down my target weight. My first goal is to shoot for 180 pounds. It's amazing how you look when you lose 20 pounds. Then the second goal is to lose 21 pounds to reach my target weight of 160 pounds. My waistline was measured at 38 inches. I wear about a size 13/14. My goal in my dress size is to wear a size 9/10. I'm ready to lose the excess pounds. However, I'm more excited to lose inches. It's mind over matter at this moment.

Senta:
