Watery foods are the way to go

Eating foods that have high water content can be a great way to lose weight. Watery foods allow you to eat as much as or even more than the calorie-rich foods and still get full on fewer calories. Foods that fit the bill include celery, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, and squash.

The smell of BBQs have permeated the air and enticed us to indulge in some great food all throughout the summer. Along with BBQs, summer brings an onslaught of fresh fruits and vegetables that need to be included on your plate. Take advantage of these foods while they're in season... the flavor won't disappoint you. And, they are lower in calories which complements the changes you're making in your diet.

Changing your eating habits doesn't have to be a punishing journey into flavorless meals! Experiment by incorporating some of these watery foods into your recipes, or have them on the side to accompany your meals. Trust me... you'll enjoy it!  Best ~ Dr. Ian

taisha :

Dr. Ian,

I am in my thirties and I have some serious injuries that I'm dealing with. I had a fall 18 months ago and I have several herniated disks, compression fractures, and injuries to my shoulder blade. I have been recently dx with severe rheumatoid arthritis and I was on some many different medications that I didn't know if I was coming or going and I couldn't even help my 8 yr old. So I made a drastic move in July from New Jersey to Georgia because the winter had me in so much pain that I couldn't get out of bed. I gained so much weight and when I first moved here I was 270lbs. I stopped taking all the medicine because it seemed like I would be on forever. I started walking on the treadmill and I've lost 20lbs and I'm not feeling as bad as I usually do and I feel like myself again. I don't know what other exercises I can do with my problems. I know that i have to loose this weight can you give me some other exercises that I can do? I am truly motivated and I just need some help so I can change my routine.

D Grayson:

I need help!!!! I started your extreme fat loss regiment a couple of weeks ago. The first week I lost 4 pounds but the second week I picked the 4 pounds back up. I followed the meal plan for the two weeks, excercised (something I already do) even did the twice a day and still picked the weight up. Therefore, this third week I stopped but I still want to try to see if it works for me. I don't want to give up but I need to know what I can do differently that may help jump start my loss. I take medication for high blood pressure and that is about it. I do about an hour or more of cardio and I do weights. I walk at my lunch or break time but I still am having problems.

Please tell me what I can do, I am desperate.

Eboni:

I am soooooo ready to loose this weight, but I have one problem. Getting motivated. I have been trying to loose weight since my son was born nine years ago,and I always loose about 20 pounds, but it always comes back and bring more with it. I have family members in my ear telling me that I am fat and I will never loose the weight. I want to prove them wrong! I mostly want to loose it for my health and my kids. I am only 29 years old and I weigh 210 lbs. I know that's not healthy, but Dr.Ian, I need a little help from you to get me started. Please let me know what type of exercises burn more calories and what type of foods work best with my body type. I want to loose this weight so help me GOD.

sharen terrell:

I have always been heavy but 5 yrs ago I suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke, could no longer work due to left side paralysis, which I still have. depression and little energy along with the paralysis took me from 170 to 220. I can walk with difficulty, but I have little energy to exercise, i know that you need diet and exercise to lose weight, so right now I feel pretty hopeless. I am praying for success in this challenge. Dr Ian, I really respect and admire what you are trying to do.

JUANITA DOBSON:

I started this challenge not only to make a difference for my race, but in memory of my grandmother. My grandmother was suffered from obesity. Type 2 diabetes plagued us as a family. I wish this challenge was around in the early 90s, then maybe my grandmother would have been spared.

Recently, I was diagnosed with PCOS(Polycystic ovary syndrome). It has alot to do with insulin resistance. My diet is mainly a high carb diet, with little fruits and veggies. I know that if I keep this up. I will end up like my grandmother. Since then I'm more aware of what I eat. I journal my diet and eat ever 3 hours. My boyfriend helps me with ny diet and stays on top of me when I start to stray. I just want to let everyone know the importance of losing weight. So far my weight loss has not succeeded much, but I feel as though I have succeeded half way, with preparing my mind for what is about to happen. My mother and sister is on the challenge. I hope to make a difference not only to myself, but to my mother and sister as well as we fight the battle of diabetes.

I started this challenge as soon as I heard but I have a hard time connecting with the site. I want support in my effort to lose weight. I work out daily I walk about 18-25 minutes five days a week on a treadmill at 3.5 uphill and down, I lift weights and do pilates. I still struggle to lose the lbs. I even have constant access to a trainer who is very encouraging and supportive. I am not a big eater, but I am a sugar person. I limit my snacks to fruit and an occasional cookie. I do have a box of 20 cookies in my office and I challenge myself to keep them for 2-3 weeks.(I have had them for 2.5 weeks today and there are 6 left) I eat salad for lunch or a weight watcher meal. I am not sure if I should be increasing my cardio, or my weight lifting. Any suggestions would be helpful

Determined T.:

Hi, This is my first day of the challenge. I have lost 33lbs in the last 5 months. I have totally changed my eating habits. I visit a doctor monthly and also see a nutritionist every 60 days. I like to exercise on the treadmill 2 x a day. I eat mostly fruits and vegetables, turkey, fish chicken and most of all no fried foods. I also drink plenty of water and drink green tea daily. I am so proud of myself. I have been trying this weight lost process for the last 25 years of my life. I have tried this diet and that diet and all it take is commitment. The commitment is what I have and it took me that long to be determined..

After having my children I notice I couldn't eat a lot of these watery foods. These foods would make my throat itch and make me nauseated. What's an alternative.(melons, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, etc.can't eat)
