Christie Smith - Our Featured Challenger

I joined the 50 Million Pound Challenge on July 9, the same day that my sister, my brother-in-law, and I started Dr. Ian Smith's Fat Smash Diet.  We all wanted to lose weight and had my upcoming wedding as an even greater motivation.  We've had some ups and downs along the way (thank God the program is so forgiving), but we've stuck with it.  When I originally tried on a wedding dress back in May, I was barely able to squeeze into a size 12.  I went back for my dress fitting on September 16 and easily fit into a size 8 dress.  My results have been phenomenal and I haven't even completed the full 90-day program.  I started at 160 lbs and am now down to 138 lbs.  I've lost over 20 lbs and several inches, dropping two clothes sizes.  My sister has also had amazing results.  When she ordered her dress at the beginning of July, she couldn't finish zipping it.  Now, she can put the dress on without unzipping it.  I am especially excited for her because she has struggled with her weight for her whole life.

I thank God for Dr. Ian Smith and the message he is spreading in our community through the 50 Million Pound Challenge.  Never before have we seen anything like this, and my prayer is that it will continue to grow and that as a community we will not only meet this Challenge, but surpass it!  My life and the lives of people around me have drastically changed.  I hope that all the other Challengers will decide, like I have, to never go back to the way you were.  Let's make this a lifetime commitment to be the healthiest people we can be!

Thanks for sharing your story Christie...my fiance and I haven't seen each other in a long time, partially due to his being deployed repeatedly....but our wedding is next year...I heard about the 50 million pound challenge and thought, "I need to get my butt up and moving"...but your story does show me that it can happen..I want to shave off some weight before my wedding so my man can have the "healthy me" not the "out of shape me" that I am now...I've never been an advocate of diets or diet pills, but a firm believer in eating right and exercise....your situation is motivating me to put it into action.

Euvaunna J. Webb:

Congradulations! Like you I took the challenge. On June 19, 2007 when our local radio station in Houston Texas was promoting the challenge. Today I am at least 40lbs lighter and down from a size 24 to a 18, I still have a ways to go but I am more motivated than ever. I hired a trainer, and work out 6 days a week, Keith Edwards, my trainer is the best. Keep up the good work.

Christie Thomas:

It is such a blessing to be a blessing. When my story was posted I had no idea that so many people would receive so much from it. Thank you to everyone for all your kind words. DON'T STOP to everyone who is still on the journey! To answer some of the questions, Dr. Ian's diet is actually very inexpensive and easy to stick to; but, the best part about it is that if you make a mistake you can just start again. It is SO forgiving. It worked for me so I know it can work for anyone else who wants to do it.
Pam - I'm sure you've heard this before but any lifestyle change is mostly mental. I've heard people say it's 50% mental, but I would argue that it's 95% mental. You have to make up your mind that you're going to lose the weight and not stop until you've done it. That's all I did. I just wouldn't quit.
Coming Out - I would be happy to support you in your efforts. Just post your email address and I'll contact you. It is so much easier to do this when you have a strong support system. I was blessed to have my sister and brother-in-law doing the program with me.
As a community, we're already past the 1 million pounds lost mark. That should mean something to you. You can look at that overall victory and see your individual victories in it. Whether you've lost 1 pound or 100 pounds, you're better now than you were before you started. Every pound counts! You're going to feel discouraged, frustrated, impatient, and want to quit but you CAN'T. You absolutely must keep pressing toward the mark. Where would we be as a people if everytime the going got tough we quit? Think about that and don't stop. As long as you keep doing something you'll never fail. Failure comes from doing nothing.

monkeshya huff:

Christie you just don't know how much you have made want to keep on going. I was just about ready to throuw in the towel about losing weight. I had lost a total of 35lbs but I got sick back in September 2007 and had to be put on prednisone. I gained 10lbs back in a week. My mother was also just recently released from the hospital and I also have a 2yr who has asthma and she had an attack and my husband and I was told that she may have to go into the hospital. But by the grace of GOD my mother and my daughter is fine. But now I have gained back 15lbs and I just feel hopeless. My husband states that I am beautiful at any size. He has stuck with me when I was 148lbs and when after I had my daughter at 242lbs. Therefore I know that his unconditional love is not an issue. It's not about being skinny for me anymore it's more about being here for my family. I had a difficult pregnancy which involved 4 hospital stays and a emergency c-section. I just want to thank you again for being such an inspiration. I see that there is really a light at the end of the tunnel. May God Bless You and your family. I do have one question. I have ordered Dr. Ian's Extreme Fat Smash Book. I know that you have to have discipline with anything that you do but if the diet very expensive and difficult to stick with?

Pam:

Congrats Christie! I am 40 years old and have been gaining weight just recently. You and I both share the same starting weight and goal weight. (mine goal is 140) I just feel so hopeless and my will power is non-existant. How did you do it? Did Dr. Ian's book help you a lot? I was thinking about purchasing it. I just need some motivation and encouragement. Thanks for any inspiring words/advice you can give me.

Tara A:

So wonderful, girl!!! You have done a great job! Keep up the dedicated work. God bless you!

baptist:

Good job, Christie. I too feel like if i start i may fail. Sometimes its so hard to do the exercise and right now i feel like stopping. I have only been going to the gym 5 wks and i just signed up for this program today.

Patricia A. Stewart:

Congratulations on your success on this program by Dr. Ian Smith. After reading your testimony it has encouraged me to know that it can be done. I have found myself following the program for several days and then falling off the wagon. Your message of hope has helped me realize that while I have accomplished a little bit right now, it is possible for me to lose the weight that I need to lose and also become a more healthy human being. Be blessed and keep up the good work.

Charlotte:

Congratulations on your success. Your story is one of motivation and dedication. It shows that determination will help you get the results you're searching for.

Barb B:

Cindy thanks for the inspiration. We all struggle in our attempt to live a healthy lifestyle. Hopefully your success will inspire others to get on board. Healthy eating and exercising are the keys to success in any lifestyle change program. Change your mindset, change your life. Let Cindy story be an example of what others can do.

Leslie Montgomery:

Thanks for the inspiration Christie! You were a beautiful bride! It always helps to read about others' success. I'm still working toward my goal.

Roshelle:

I viewed your wedding pictures and you were a BEAUTIFUL bride. You and your husband make a nice couple. I started the challenge back in July and I was only on it for 6 days and I lost a total of 9 lbs. Shortly thereafter, I became sick and I never did start over. I think I've just been procrastinating because I feel like I am going to fail. I've tried Weight Watchers and LA Weight Loss and I haven't been able to shake this baby fat. I've been married for 10 yrs. and the one thing I want most is to have my husband look at me and say wow.."My wife is still gorgeous". Today is my 1st day on the challenge and I pray that I am successful. I'll be 35 in March and I want to be fit and healthy for my birthday. That's my motivation and thank you for being my inspiration.

How motivating! You look very comfortable and confident. I am also striving to get healthy and prepare for my big day. Best wishes. Dawn
