Hello Dr. Ian and fellow participants,
I am so glad to share my story. I've always stuggled with my weight, but I didn't realize how much of a problem it was until this year.
It was my company's 100th Anniversary, and the General Manager decided to complile a DVD of all employees. I thought to myself "I can't wait to see it." Once I finally watched the DVD, I couldn't believe that was what everyone saw when they looked at me (187 lbs). I decided then and there that I needed to do something about it. Then came the 50 Million Pound Challenge.
I thank you so much, I am now 163 lbs, losing more and loving it. Drinking water has been a key part of my success.

Here I go for the umteenth time. I am currently
260lbs but my desired weight is 140. I know it
will be extremely hard to accomplish this goal, but I need to for my health. I need to
relieve the wt off my joints. Actually, I started changing my eating habits 11days ago
with the statemene "MY name is ---- and I am
a foodaholic" This is overweight situation is something you live with every
day of your life. It has to be a life style
change and not a diet. PEACE.

Hello All,
I would like to commend you all for taking the first step - acknowledging and then setting clear objectives to achieve a healthy lifestyle! Tahira, Tekia, Chleb and everyone - keep it the weight moving stage left!!!! DO IT!!!
Remember to eat 5-7 small meals daily and exercise at least 3-4 days per week. I think that we must overhaul our mind, body, and soul to avoid falling off the bandwagon of a healthy lifestyle! Also, please surround yourself with positive people that will encourage, motivate, and inspire you and hold you accountable when you slip up! Most importantly, we must hold ourselves responsible. Have an annual physical with your family health care provider - be aware of your family members health - know your family history so that you are aware of challenges you may face along the way. Arm yourself with knowledge because ignorance is unacceptable!
We have personal setbacks, challenges, slight obsacles - but let's not allow it to set us back permanently! Again, good work! Keep it up! Keep the weight moving stage left!!! And be proud of your prime accomplishment!
The 50 million pound challenge reminds me of the Verizon commercial - "The network is always behind you!! :)"
Peace and Blessing to all as we shed the weight in 0-8!!

I am 32 years old and I have children. I was 170 when I had my third child I was a size 13. I had just lost 40 pounds and I was feeling good about myself. My husband had just graduated from college and he had no children, so I popped up pregnant. I gained 60 pounds from that pregnancy. I am still that size. I starve myself diet and it seems like I just cant lose that weight I gained. I was thinking a couple days ago what did I do differently then from now and I realized I was not exercising. I have to want to put an effort forward in order to move forward. I feel my marriage would be even better if I was much smaller. So, I hope I am joining a motivational team to keep me motivated to lose this weight.

I finally have decided to do something about my weight. I am 32 year old single mother who weighed 212 lbs(1 month ago) & now weighs 205 lbs and I'm SICK OF IT! I am an emotional eater. Whether I'm bored, happy, sad, stressed, whatever, I tend to turn to food. I have fasted many times for up to 10 days at a time and lost up to 12 lbs but I'd gain the weight back of course. I will start out by walking and doing sit-ups and then once I feel confident enough I will join a gym. I have started to eat a lot healthier this past month and now I just need to incorporate some excercise into my daily routine. I'm off to a good start and I'm ready to bump it up a notch.
Congrats to those who have made it to their goals and good luck to those trying to get there.

Tahria,
Congrats to you. I know what you mean by seeing your self in a video or picture. I'm new to the site but have been a yo-yo dieter most my adult life (I'll be hitting the 1/2 century mark in less than 2 yrs.) My starting weight was 262 and I'm just a shorty. I did realy well on Weight Watchers about two years ago, lost 40 lbs and into size 16 jeans from a 22/24. I felt great and thought I'd conquered my weight battle. Then this Daddy's girl unexpectedly lost her Dad. My Ma had a heart attack when she found my dad dead in their basment but didn't know until a couple months later. Within 4 months my Ma has major heart surgery. (She's doing great today.) All my new eating habits disappeared and I went back to what was comfortable. I creeped back up to size 20 and some of my old 22 even felt really comfortable. With my faith in God, and my love for our people, I'm back at it again, only 5 lbs lost but I'm determined and seek the help and encouragement of all of you.

Isnt it something how you can look at a pic of yourself and feel like "OMG!! Is that really me?" I guess we dont feel like how we look when we are that heavy or we dont feel that we are that HEAVY!! Im a nursing student and I have recently committed to getting healthy. Im 23 and 20 pounds away from 300 pounds and I feel the effects of the weight (fatigue, aching knees etc.). Ive started and I REFUSE to turn back!!
You look really pretty!!

Congrats to all !!
I am 31yrs old, 5'6 and I weight 185lbs. I recently saw a picture of myself, and it shocked me. I was in the background of the picture with my back to the camera, and I was eating. Now I knew I was definitely not a size 2, but I did not realize what people saw when they looked at me. I definitely have to make a change. I am not happy with my weight. I realize that I don't enjoy shopping anymore because I hate to try on clothes. I gonna start off simply walking, drinking plenty of water & doing sit ups. Here Goes....
Good Luck All

hello dr. Ian i woke up one morning with my hand numb. went to the doctor only to find outi have an irregular ekg. when the staff weighed me i was approximately 247lbs. embarrassing.there were at least 3 staff members gatherd around me. theyput me on a heart unit and monitored me all night. i am 38yrs. old and my mom died at 38 yrs. old with a heart attack.the my doctor informed me that it is time to lose weight. mind you my bloodwork was always normal. however there was a silent killer and it wasnt the blood pressure.it was weight.or shall i say the lack of diet and exercise on my part.people it is so important to eat healthy and exercise. not diet. for it is detrimental to your health in the longhaul. i know that GOD has been there. but hes shown me that i must do my part.thanks for listening.

Hello all challengers! Let me tell a short story about myself: back in 2001 I woke up one morning, went into the bathroom and stood on the scale. Woow! I said to myself, this is scary, I now weigh 210 pounds? Ok, that's it! I'm going to lose some of this weight now! After work that day I went to my local Weight Watchers center and signed up. My target weight was 180. Within a few months of watching what I ate and excercising, I had lost 35 pounds, exceeding my target weight, I had gone down to 175. I was so happy I went out and bought a new wardrobe. I felt so good about myself. I could run faster, run upstairs without feeling winded and looked great! people at work were complimenting me constantly. But overtime I took things for granted and have gained the weight back. I am now at 209 and I am frustrated and a little upset with myself. I am now determined to get back to that healthy feel good weight again and so I've joined the challenge! Challenge, here I come!

Hi Dr. Ian, I was listening to you today on the Steve Harvey Show and decided to sign up for the challenge. I also heard you talking about signing up churches. I actually belong to Apostolic Church of God (Bishop Brazier), but lately I have been attending House of Hope(Rev. Meeks) and I believe both of these churches would be ideal for the 50 million pound challenge. It would be a blessing to have you attend either church. Apostolic Church of God is located at:6320 South Dorchester Ave. Chicago, IL 60637. House of Hope is located:752 E. 114th st. Chicago,IL 60628.

Hello Dr. Ian,
You have always inspired me from your role on Celeb Fit Club. So when I heard about this challenge, I knew I was going to join. To date I have already lost almost 30 pounds but I have gained 20 back in the last 6 months. I am a former athlete and want to get back down to a comfortable weight. Thanks for creating this challenge!

Hello Dr. Ian and everyone who may read this post. I am 38 and 5'2 weighing in at 193lbs. My weight has a lot to do with the medicine they gave me when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer "Thank GOD" I am a survivor and no longer have the chronic disease but do have the added weight. I went from 160lbs to 193lbs within 3 months. I didn't realize how i actually looked until this years annual party, but at the same time people around me were aware of my situation. I would really like to get back to my original 130 lbs as I was 14 years ago before the birth of my 2 beautiful children and have been hesitant to diet. Fortunately I was watching BET one night and seen the others on the challenge comercial and decided to sign up. I think it is wonderful that we can get together and fight our food demons and wrong eating habits together from state to state. I am delighted to see that there are ALOT of others such as myself out there keep up the walking and exercise ladies and gentlemen! :) "today is the first day of the rest of my life"
