I learned about The Challenge riding into work one morning and listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show on the radio. I rushed into work so I could hear the rest.
I was already dieting and exercising at the time, but Dr. Ian really made me want to meet my weight goal even more. I felt like joining this Challenge could do that.
I've lost 33 pounds since I've joined The Challenge. My total weight loss since my life change in February 2007 has been 56 Lbs!
I'm very proud of myself and I know you are as well, Dr. Ian. I've been tracking my weight on the web site. I get weighed almost every Monday at work, and I keep a print out of my weight loss to remind me of all of the hard work and effort I put in. I have included before and after pictures of myself as well.
I just want to thank Dr. Ian & Steve Harvey because if I would have not been listening to the radio, I would have never really gotten to hear the importance of this 50 Million Pound Challenge.

Jamie., I want to congratulate you on your success. I just signed up for this challenge today and I was looking for some inspiration to get started. Your story was very inspiring. I am very excited about losing my first pound. I think I'll use your idea about printing out my weight to track it and use for even more motivation. This is a very important decision and I don't take it lightly. I knew I did not want to take pills or have surgery. For the first time, I feel like I can really do this without those things.

Hey Jamie,
Congratulations! You look really great. I started the program back last year but haven't been keeping track. You have encouraged me to get back on track. I am watching what I eat and have started an exercise program.

I was listening to the Steve Harvey morning show on 01/16/08 and I immediately went to the website and signed up for the 50 million pound challenge. I currently use weight watchers as a weight management plan and I track my weight progress on the 50 million pound challenge website and on the site I've lost 19 pounds but my total weight lost using the weight watchers plan since Semptember '07 is 48 pounds just from exercising and changing my eating habits. I'm looking forward to earning my 50 pound star this Thursday. Thank you to weight watchers and Dr. Ian Smith. For encouraging lifestyle change through better eating and exercise while the rest of the world pushes starvation and surgery.

This is my first day joining the challenge, but actually, I started at 278 lbs. I am currently on paid leave through the state's Labor & Industries, as I was injured on the job back in June of last year; I am a truck driver and compressed my spine while working at a construction site. I used to eat mostly fried foods, fast foods, and even though I had a physically demanding job, I still couldn't lose weight. I was also a very heavy smoker, for over 36 years. I have been homebound, with no way to exercize; last February, I started having severe anxiety and panic attacks, and learned I have severe depression, heightened by menopause. This was life changing for me. I started on medication, and my outlook on life has dramatically changed. I not only changed my emotional state, but my diet and lifestyle as well. I quit smoking on March 13th, and have not smoked since, and have not used any medicinal aid to do so. I now eat only lean meats, fish, plenty of fruit and even more vegetables, milk and yogurt...lots of water. Even though I am not able to vigorously exercize, I am doing physical therapy exercizes and walking at least 15 minutes a day, thanks to a nerve block series that has helped manage my pain. My energy level has improved dramatically, and the weight is coming off at a consistent rate! I am determined to get to my target weight of 190; 170 would be better, but I have a very large bone structure, and do not want to be too thin. I just KNOW I can do this...and if I can, ANYONE can!!!

Congrats Jamie! I too keep my print outs of my weight as a reminder. Continue to fight this fight and remember that you are not alone. I'm greatful for the challenge because it has brought about so much awareness that we seem to forget at times. Best of Luck to you!!
