Eat multiple small meals and help increase your metabolism. It doesn’t sound right at first, but eating can actually speed up the metabolism that burns calories. It’s called the thermogenic effect of food (TEF), and it simply means that food requires some amount of energy to be digested.
Protein-rich foods tend to have a higher TEF which means they speed up the metabolism more. So eat smaller, multiple meals and burn more calories than you would by eating the traditional three larger “square” meals per day.

I am a 50 yrs 260 pounds lady with diabetes & Heart problems. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1995 and take insulin, I also had Heart Surgary (Q bypass) in 10/2004. I take 12 pills and 2 shots a day, I have been trying to lose weight and at this time I am having a hard time doing so and I have hit rock botton and I need help. I am on Weight Watcher program and that is teaching me to cut back on some of the thing I like, because I love Southern Cooking. I drink water and Crystal Light and try to eat right and I have only lost 3 pounds but I do have Faith that I will lose weight but some time you need a little encouragment from some one else.

I've been wanting to slim down forever and I did. After loosing about 20-25pds. I was pregnant again and had never really lost all the weight that I'd gain with our then 1 1/2yr old. I was never really a little girl, but I am juvenile diabetic (insulin dependent), and although I feel wonderful when I'm eating right exercising and taking care of myself, it's so hard to stay on the right track and when I fall off, I fall off. HELP

Everybody kept telling me I was looking good for my age--I've exercised all my life since I was a little girl with Paige Palmer and Jack Lalanne. But when I couldn't get in last season's clothes I went to the doctor and He showed me on the chart I was obese. I was shocked right into reality and pumped up on the tread me a little longer and cut back on calories big time. I don' believe in diets but in eating right for the rest of my life. I've lost 15 pounds in 2 months. People say don't loose anymore but my doctor said to loose 20 pounds--so I got 5 more to go and who knows maybe more. I'm 54 years old so I got to keep my metabolism up and burning. I love all the weight loss and health tips - I use them all in one way or another. I like when people say I don't look my age and it keeps me on my workout. Be encouraged everyone and stay in the fight over the bulge. The biggest battle is in the mind. Theresa

This is for anonymous who is the hospital worker. I am limited for space here so you can go to my website and contact me so that I can give you more direct advice. However, begin with the end in mind. You have to get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Put on a garment that you used to wear and look at your bulges and then tell yourself, I will never go back to business as usual. Join my team, "peews"and I will assist you some more. Believe me, You can do ALL things through Christ.

Just don't make exceptions. Find a diet you like and stick to it. Noexcuses or exceptions. It is tempting to go to the vending machine at work. I know. Bring fruit and a bug jug of water. You can join our team if you want. We are in our second week of really kicking into the diets. You won't be far behind. I just lost my first pound and I am excited because it works. I eat a peach and a piece of toast for breakfast because I am diabetic. I eat a good weight watchers lunch and sensible dinner or salad. Fruits in between. We can do it. Hate the fat, don't feed it. Our team is the exuseless divas. Good luck!

This works!!!! I retired from the Air Force in 1998, since than I've gained about 70 pounds. My activity level steadily declined to the point that the only thing I participated in was refereeing basketball (twice a week), and playing golf, which is only benifitial if you walk, I rode in the cart, "0" calories burnt. I am 49 years old. Because of injuries over the past 2 years my weight has fluctuated between 235 and 246 lbs, at 5'7" my body was really going thru it. My new years resolution was to get my weight down, between 175 - 185 lbs (get my sexy back) before I turned 50 (December Ya'll). Well I finally got serious about 3 1/2 weeks ago and bought the nutrisystem program ($371.00 including S& H) for my fathers day present. The wife got a diamond ring for mother's, and I'm trying to turn back into a gem for her. The diet is totally consistant with Dr. Ian's tip to increase your metabolism. I'll have to say some of the food suck's, but the program overall works. I combined 6 small meals a day with 8 - 8oz glasses of water, increased my activity level, I walk the golf courses now, bought a pedometer, which helps me count the miles I walk in a day, figure in 2 hrs of yard work twice a week and weight training 2 to 3 times a week and "BOOM" 15 lbs in 24 day's. With 4 day's left on a 28 day program I've started substituting the plans breakfast with my own food (sticking to the planner) and I can project a total 20 to 24 lb loss. I can see my skinny face breaking out of the round mound, and I'm on the last whole in my favorite belt (I can punch more holes). Sorry for the long story, but, I said that to say this, Dr. Ian is the man!! Take every piece of advice he gives you literally and you can't go wrong. This is not a paid testamonial for, "JUST KIDDING". Peace
