In the News: Be the change, affect the future

We've run across some interesting articles in the news lately. Here's one that we'd like to share with you...

The Washington Post ran an eye-opeing article on the amount of money that's spent in advertising in the fast food industry.

The Challenge is not for individuals under the age of 18, but this community can still make a difference.

We're the ones who can help our kids understand the messages delivered through the advertising.

We've all heard Dr. Ian speak or write about the powerful influence we have on each other. And, this community is a testament to his point.

Living healthier is about making the right decisions. Our fight is against the health trends that are shortening the lives of our loved ones... and our example and guidance can help guide the next generation to a better life.

Let's step up to the plate to better our children's future as well.

Felicia Williams:

In todays world it is very easy to fall prey to unhealthy habits . It is very sad to me that 1.6 billion dollars is spent to market fast food. That amount of money could be used and put towards promoting cooking workshops for children. This can help them see and learn fun healthy eating habits.Letting them know the danger now and when they grow up of not eating healthy . I think now that it has become a issuse for children and adults to take care of themselves. To practice every chance they get to exercise and choose healthy foods. I feel it is unnoticed the long term effect that this can have on todays generation .

Reginald Fowler:

Hi, my name is Reginald Fowler and I am a 46 yr. old Maintenance Technician in Levittown ,Pa. near Philadelphia. I had been very athletic as a young man growing up in Brooklyn and Queens N.Y.I mean I played it all from football to boxing. But as so often happens we grow up we make families and work to support our families. As a matter of fact it got to the place where thats all that I did,is work.On of all days I had a stroke on Father's Day this past June.I have been recovering ever since.I spent a week in the hospital and was 315lbs. when I was discharged 1 week later.I had speech therapy and nurses visiting home.I am happy to say that I was told that there would be no lasting negative effects even I still struggle sometimes with my memory and am on blood thinner for life. But I know that I'm blessd to still be here and have under taken a new zest for life.I am at 275 lbs. from 315 and have no plans of ever becoming so out of shape again as long as I live.So I just joined the challenge roughly about a half hour ago,so you'll be hearing regularly from me.Thank You
