In the News: Small Steps to Healthy Living

An article from a Philly online news source spelled out some realistic tips and thoughts to which we can all relate.

Here's an portion of that article:

"We are all filled with good intentions, but if it were super easy to make lifestyle changes we all would be the picture of health. But it is not super hard either. In fact, taking small steps, one step at a time, every week or even every month allow you, your body and your family to adjust, settle in and enjoy living healthy and sticking with it - permanently."

Most guides that I have seen recommend 10,000 steps per day for weight loss. I gradually worked my way up to 10K and it wasn't very hard.

Start by counting how many steps you take per day for an entire week (without any extra affort). This is your baseline. For week 2, add 500 steps to your baseline average. Say, for example, your baseline shows that you take 4,000 steps per day on the average. For week 2, you will make your daily goal 4,500 steps per day. During week 3, your goal will be 5,000 steps per day, and so on. After a while, you will have to be creative in finding ways to get your steps in but that is the fun part of the challenge. But before you know it you will be averaging 10,000 steps per day!

You can do it. Best of luck!

Hello All

I just wanted to know the recommended number of steps a person should take a day if you are on a weight loss mission. I am 32 years old and about 5'4 in height. I have my pedometer and I am ready to go!!! Thanks in advance
