I guess my motivation is the guy that worked at 7-11.  He is the one who got me to see me for me. I was at the 7-11 getting my usual snicker bar, coke and potato chips which I ate every night before bed. While waiting in line he kept staring at me. When it was my turn to pay, with 4 people behind me, he said "you look beautiful, absolutely gorgeous.”  I was blushing. Then he said to all the other people in line, "Pregnant people are gorgeous aren't they? How far along are you?" The lady behind me then said "Do you know if it is a boy or a girl?" All the other people joined in with their baby stories.Marcella Jones

I was devastated because I was not pregnant. I told them I was 6 months pregnant and the sad part was they believed me. One person even said I was going to have a big baby. I paid for my snacks, left the store and went to an empty parking lot to cry while I ate my snack for the last time. That was February 28, 2007. I cried for 4 hours straight. I had lost my husband and my self to obesity. Morbid obesity, massive obesity!

The next day I typed out what the store man said and I began my journey to 140lbs. I didn't go to any Jenny Craig or weight watchers because I was too fat and embarrassed. I stopped all fast foods cold turkey (boy was that hard), I stopped all cokes (even harder) and I joined a gym. I joined Gold’s Gym because they had an all ladies gym behind closed doors and no one would see me. They had a cinema room that you could watch a movie and I watched all my favorite movies while I walked. I went to the gym 5 days per week for 1-2 hours doing mostly cardio. I ate plenty of tilapia and broccoli. I drank protein shakes in the morning. I started reading food labels at the grocery store and on anything I ate that had a label to read. I educated myself. I was determined to regain my self, forget the husband I needed to get ME back.

I lost 65 pounds in 5 months and I have kept it off for over a year. Yes I have relapses but never over 5 pounds before I start reading the letter I typed to myself that wonderful day at the 7-11. I consider that day as a blessing and a wake up call. For me, I needed something tragic to happen in order for me to see what other people saw when they looked at me.  Just as they didn't like it, I didn't like it either.

When I look back on everything, I see the low self esteem and I now see the health issues that being obese and having low self esteem can bring on. I still don't have a significant other but I am totally enjoying the process and my low self esteem is a thing of the past. I have no health issues none! What I did gain from this is a high level of self esteem, a friendly personality and a gorgeous smile!

Michael:

Marcella,

Wow! What an inspiration. I wish I had more time to comment on your story, because you've motivated me to get moving. I'm writing this at 9:45 pm and I haven't gotten my workout in for the day, but that's no excuse. I was feeling pretty down up until checking out your story, but now my vigor is renewed!

OK, gotta get my running shoes on and hit that treadmill!

Congratulations!

Joy Kearney:

This is a very inspiring story! Congrats to you and good job for keeping the weight off!

You look great! I have a small goal of losing a few lbs and toning up, but I plan to maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure I don't run the risk of health problems later on in life.

It's very hard to "eat healthy"...especially when getting that to-go meal is so much easier. I will have to get Dr. Smith's book.

Barbara:

Hi Marcie,
I really enjoyed your story. I am so inspired with your weekly blog. We can all identify with your Red Lobster story. I joined the 50 million pound challenge this past summer. I truly believe I am on my way this time to reach my goal.
I will check your blog each week to incorporate your wonderful tips. Thank you for your words of encouragement. Congratulations for you success and Good luck on your journey.

Kimberly Wheeler:

Marcella Jones!!!!!

I know this is suppose to be about the 50 Million Pound Challenge but I'm sorry . . . it's reunion time. What a blessing to see your face and know that you're doing well. Spec, I can't wait to talk with you!!!

I cannot believe it . . . we were just talking about you at "Inauguration Activities" & I told Judi I had no idea where you were or how to get in touch with you. I'm not sure how we disconnected but I have no contact info for you. Last time I saw you was on my detour from that "Blacksburg, VA trip" what in like 1998/99? I was in Norfolk at a college graduation few years ago and thought about you but had no earthly idea where to contact. Viveca asked me sometime last year if I'd been in touch with you.

Imagine my surprise when I receive our chapter newsletter today and it says that a Marcella Jones in VA had won blah, blah, blah. Really - I immediately stopped reading the article and came to the website cause I'm thinking there can't be more than 1 Marcella Jones - especially in VA (so I'm not exactly sure what you won but congrts). I'm like let me go to that web site - It has to be Marcie!

Girl - EMAIL ME so we can reconnect . . . also I'm very proud of you. You always were the type to go after what you wanted and be successful. Why would losing weight be any different once you made up your mind - :0)

Cookie & I are on a "quest to lose some weight as well"; thanks for being an inspiration. Looking forward to talking with you and getting some "sisterly tips"!

I can't wait to hear from you . . . LOVE YA and email me soon, and now I'm forwarding this link to Cookie, Judi, Michelle, Viveca, etc., etc. Hey, do you know where Angela is . . .?

marcella jones:

thank you to everyone for all the encouragement. my 2nd blog is up and running. it is in 2 parts but i promise you will gain some insight if you watch it. don't forget to join my team power house inc so that we can travel this weight loss journey together. would love to talk to old friends and catch up.

Renee Hamilton:

I'm very happy for you. Losing that weight was the best decision you could ever mak. For those
who walked away from you because of your condition, they didn't deserve you. They should have stood by your side. That would have helped you to lose the weight even faster. You are a true motivation story for me. It was assumed many times that I was pregnant, before and after I was actually pregnant. It was embarassing and I turned to food for comfort which is all I knew. Currently my weight has gone up and down from 5 to 30 pounds because of stress and loss of motivation, but now I got it back.

QueenDiva Dallas, TX:

Mrs. Jones,

Your story is very inspiring. You have done great! As hard as I know it was, you beat it! Congratulations and keep up the good work! You look good! and most of all I am sure you feel good! You won this battle now maybe you can work on some of the smaller things in your life now that you have the energy. Maybe consider a partner and help them with a battle or two. I'm proud of you and thankful for your story!! Great job!!!!!

Renee West:

Marcie..we are SO PROUD of you and all of your accomplishments! Taking control of what appears is out of control is letting God be in control! CONGRATULATIONS---YOU INSPIRE A LOT OF PEOPLE!!!

Lynn:

I know how you feel. I am 5"1 you know (very short) so the weight that I put on is in my waist line.(runs in the family) It took my husband to ask me did I have something to tell him(talking about my stomach that stood out in front of me)and also trying to put on dresses from the year before and my 14year old daughter say mom whats that? or when I put on my uniform for work and have my boss(female) call me in the office and tell me to stop eating out with the guys because it was showing. All of this opened my eyes also and made me want to cry ,but with the busy life I have there is not time for crying.I just wanted to say Thank you for shareing you story with everyone. People need someone to motivate them. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes the weight is comeing ooffffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :.)

Lakisha:

Marcie, Marcie, Marcie! You keep up the good work. As a fellow woman who struggled with my weight I'm glad to see you loose it and keep it off. Come April, I again wil begin my journey to my goal weight (after the baby). You have an awesome heart and I hope more people spend the time to get to know you better. I'm glad to have met you.

Taishon:

Well, all I can say is "you go girl", you look fabulous. Your story is very inspirational. I have 65lbs to lose myself. I am just getting started and I know if you did it, then I can too. God Bless you. Stay Encouraged.

Revonda:

Marcie...you look fabulous...continue to stay movtivated and inspire people b/c we need more people just like you!

shamon:

Marcella, you have shown us that often times the realities of life do one of two things. It either slaps us and wakes us up or it continues to cripple us. Each individual must wake up daily and determine what they have the motivatation to conquer for that day. Being obese or over weight can be so devistating that it leads to severe depression, which can unfortuantley affect every aspect of a persons life, and joy. Many people share a journey similar to yours, and yet there are so many people who live their lives through frustration, guilt and inner anger for not being able to be what "society" deems as beautiful. For every overweight woman out there Keep a strong hold on the beauty within. Find your support group, and take it one step at a time. Begin by adding exercise while incorporating lots of water, learn the importance of changing your diet. Remember, ultimately you have control, don't let food control you, and whatever you do make daily goals to stay mentally and physcially strong like Marcella and your inner beauty will radiate out! Loving all my sisters big and thin.

Hey Marcie:

I am sooooooooooooooooo PROUD of you! Congratulations on your continued success! You are, and have always been, a beautiful woman on the outside and inside. I am sure your story will serve as inspirtation to many others.

"Even the smallest victory is never to be taken for granted. Each victory must be applauded, because it is so easy not to battle at all, to just accept and call that acceptance inevitable."

What an inspiring story you have shared. Thank you for being willing to bare a painful memory with us all. I have lost nearly 50lbs in 10 months by changing the way I eat, portion control and excercise and I feel great. It hasn't been easy and there is still a little more work to be done but readling your story is an inspiration. Continue to reach for your goals and may you be blessed as you do so.

Justice3:

Wow!

Thank you for that sometimes you need someone that you know or dont know to give you that inspiration and that is just what you have done. You inspire me to know that nothing can stop you from being a healthier being but you and I appreciate that very much. So I have made that step by join the program for me and my blessing, my husband and daughter. I just want to say thank you very much you are an inspiration to me I cant say it enough. Just as you say "it is a blessing to be a blessing!" THANK YOU!

Hello Marci,

Your story is very inspirational, it solidifies the notion that we don't have to remain what we were yesterday.

Go shorty, it's ya birthday! lol!
Ian

Shonquinta:

I am so inspired by your story because you have demonstrated how important it is to take care of you, to love yourself and not worry about the what ifs.

Stopping any habit cold turkey is one of the hardest things to endure, but you did it and look at how fabulous you look.

I applaud you. :)

Jessica Moore:

What a truly wonderful story!!! One of the key things that you said was that you did it to get yourself back, and no one else mattered. We realize that our weight is the key to our health and our success. God Bless You and Keep You Marcella as an inspiration for others to walk in your footsteps.

Benetha G. Hall:

keep up the good work! I have been there.I am very encouraged by your story. God Bless.

hacinzano:

Thank you.... I am encourage by your story. It is hard to see yourself as the rest of the world see you. Toda I brisk walked for 20 minutes, my hearting was pounding, but I started to see me in a whole new light.

Tausha Dabney:

I really think that it is great for you to have something to look up to and guide you through on helping to lose weight and being healthy keep is going.

Kye Brown :

I heard your succcess story on Steve Harvey Morning show and I had to come to the site to read about how you did it. I have not gotten to the point where I am at my lowest but I am about 2 steps from there. I can't fit any of my size 14 clothes from last year and I hate walking places because I feel like my thighs are the size of hamhocks. You are truly motivating and I now know what I have to do to look and feel the way that I want. Congrats Marcella and contiuned success.

marcella jones:

hello to everyone. i want to say thank you for being an inspiration to me to keep up the good work. i come to you to ask for your help. i have been selected to be one of the finalist for the challenger of the year. the winner will get money of course but also a chance to encourage and inspire others to do what some think is the impossible, LOOSE WEIGHT! i want to help others to succeed. i want to help others see that underneath it all they are beautiful wonderful not to mention PHAT! (pretty hot and tempting) not fat. you can help me help others by voting for me on line from december 1, 2008 through december 29, 2008. you can and i pray you will vote for me every day. please do so. if choosen as the winner i hope that i get the chance to just talk to others and motivate them into becoming the swan that we all are maybe even forming a team or being a motivational speaker. please check the site starting december 1 for the link and i will also post the direct link on this comment section. thank you to everyone who will agree to assist me in this because as we all know change can happen and if i can be apart of change in just 1 persons life, hopefully more, then all this weight loss will have been for a good cause other than my own. after all, isn't it a blessing to be a blessing if given the chance. help me have that chance. p.s. check out the new and improved me on december 1, 2008
happy weight loss to all and remember: you have to believe to achieve

Patricia:

Thanks for sharing. Your story was inspiring and heartfelt. I know you feel just as fabulous as you look. I will keep your story in mind as I embark on a new path in my lifelong journey to achieve optimum health. One day I'll be able to share my story.

Marella Croom:

I am so encouraged by your story. I was already motivated but you just inspired me even more. Thanks for sharing your story. Keep up the good work.

ChozGurl:

Hi Marcella,

Your story was touching. I wanted to respond b/c one month after I had my daughter some guy said to me, "Hey Ms Lady, when you gonna have that baby." I smiled and responded with a big lump in my throat..."I already did."
Unfortunately, I had a C-Section, so that left me with a sagging, gut... My self esteem was in the negative zone. I had another child, and was determined to lose the gut, and do what I needed to do to get my self esteem back to the level that I felt comfortable.

You go gurl, and if you don't have a man by now, so what. Love yourself, and true love will find you.

VAUGHNDUTCH:

When I read your story it really touch me you are truly an angel. See that's why we must believe that everything in our life happens 4 a reason because your story motivated me to succeed and I even printed it out from my computer and I will carry it with me for true motivation! God bless you!

Lisa:

You look great! Keep up the good work.

Ms. Moore:

You look wonderful. I can relate to your story. It took an eye opener to help me do what I already knew to do. Keep up the great work.

LLB:

What an awesome testimony! God bless you for sharing it. After seeing Barack elected as president, I feel so inspired. I just thought to myself, if I can have the kind of focus and determination as Barack, I can do anything I wanted to do, too. So I've decided to go ahead and lose this weight (30 pounds). After 2 babies, I need to get my body back. I'm constantly fatigue, but I have a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old to keep up with. And since I'm no young chick, I need good health on my side to keep up with them.

I, too, love fast food. I'll feed my kids breakfast and forget to eat myself, so while I'm out I'll grab something fast. I'm going to stop that. I want to be healthy and active. I don't want my kids to have a fat mom. I want my husband to be proud to walk in a room with me. I want my sexy back!

Meka Butler:

You have such a beautiful and incrediable story. This just gives me the motivation that I need to keep on keeping on. Stay encouraged and keep up the GOOD work. Remember we can have ONE CHEAT DAY out of the week, only ONE!! I do sometimes but I don't over do it, I still watch my portion intake. That is the main thing that we have to do is watch and maintain our portion control that was one of my biggest dowmfalls.

marcella jones:

thank you to everyone who read my story. i wish all of you success and wish that we could form a support group to help one another through this. it is an everyday struggle still for me as i maintain my weight loss. i still crave snickers and chips and don't forget the coke but if i do have them then it is only half before i throw the rest away. i am glad to have had the honor to be inspiration and encouragement for you guys and if there is a way to form a support group please let me know. you all have been support for me as well. i can't let you nor myself down. lastly i would like to say, talk health, faith, success and happiness. say you are successful in all that you do and all is well with you and god will hear your words and make them true. god bless!

CONGRATS. WISH I COULD DO IT...

tamara woods:

Congratulations on the weight loss. I'm glad for you, but disappointed in the fact that your motivation was negative comments. That seems to be the reason for many obese people to lose weight, when the reason & motivation should be your overall health & self happiness. I just wish that overweight people could love themselves before & during as well as after the weight loss. People will always have something nasty & negative to say about you even if your weigh 100 pounds, so i just wish that people's motivation to lose came from within not from others comments.

gottalose150:

It is a blessing to feel good about yourself in a world that is based on what society thinks of us. It is so great that you were able to do what you needed to do, for you to feel better about yourself and you sound so happy. When I was 17 and 18, I remember seeing people that looked to be in their twenties, on the heavy side walking with canes and I would wonder what happened to them to be so young and cripple. Now, I am 38, at my biggest ever (308 lbs), standing at 5'6. My knees have begun to hurt, my body aches and I feel every pound on my bones. I avoid walking up steps, I feel like the weight is so heavy on my chest that I have to catch my breath at times, my ankles are huge, I hate standing for long periods of time because my ankles and feet will begin to hurt, but now I know that if I continue gaining weight, I will need a cane. Years of being heavy on a small frame is killing my knees. I feel like an elephant trying to stand on toothpicks day after day. I carry my weight well and I still have a figure and I stay neat at all times. But, my private thoughts of what has become of me are sad. I have to lose 150 lbs, to hear it sounds like it will take forever. I am so impressed that you were able to have will power inorder to lose 65 lbs. in 5 months.

msyates04:

Wow what an eye opener. Congratulations on your weight loss. I have been battling with my weight for many years, but this time I beleive I am more true to trying to loose than ever, I can't wait until I can confess to loosing 50 lbs. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration for us all.

ANDREW:

Wow. You have really done great. I my self went through almost the same thing. Its stories like yours that I still continue on my journey. I have lost 112 pounds and need 65 more to go. Thank you for sharing.

Gina:

Wow Marcella thank you for sharing your story....Im sitting here crying for you and for myself, because I'm walking in those same shoes today. But if I've learned anything from reading your story, I can take a minute to feel sorry and cry for myself and than I need to take action. Thanks for helping me to realize that I must step up and get healthy for me.

China:

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so much for being bold enough to share your story. I just left my first journal entry on the site and I have come to realize that I am at the biggest I have ever been in my life. 5 months ago I could wear a 12/14 comfortably now I pray to squeeze into a 16/18. Your story is an inspiration to me at such a critical time. Keep your letter and read it everyday as a reminder of how much YOU are worth. You have helped me to see that this is not a life sentence and that only I can free myself from this prison I have created. I am getting ready to type myself a letter. Keep sharing your story, you never know who will be encouraged by it.

adrienne:

I read all the stories on here and I must say that your story touched my heart the most. I am currently on weight watchers & am wishing to lose close to the amount you have lost. I have about 30+ more pounds to go. I get discouraged sometimes, unmotivated to continue but when I read stories like yours, I get a burst of "I can do it." "I will do it." Congrats on your weight loss. You look fantastic!

You GO GIRL. What an encouragement to read what you have accomplished. This is definitely a "hard" battle to overcome but once determined, there is absolutely nothing that can stop you! Getting healthy is the BEST decision I have ever made for myself and I'm sure it's on the top of your list as well. Keep up the Great job and I'm certain that you will have continued success.

Debra:

Marcella after reading your testimony I cried and then I got busy. Today is the second day of a new Me, Myself, and I. I started the 30 day meal plan I got up this morning with the help of my 26 year old son who works out every day and went to the Track and walked as hard as I could for 30 minutes, which came to be one mile. I will do this every morning and work out in the afternoons at the gym. You have really motivated me to make lifestyle changes in my eating habits I am 47 years old with several health Issues that will soon be a issue of the past. My short term goal is to lose 40 pounds by January and my long tem goals is to lose 80 pounds by December 2009.

Nia :

I think that's great. I am going through the same situation. My daughter asked me did her dad leave me because I was fat. I felt so hurt. At that time I decided to do something about it. I started walking and trying to eat properly. It's not easy but reading your story made me realize that I can do it. I thank you for that. Keep up the good work.

Toni:

Wow! Your story is very inspirational. Keep up the good work.

I have been a yo yo dieter for my whole life and now that I am in mid life It is so much harder to lose weight.

Marcella,

Thank you for sharing your story, it was so motivating. I enjoy seeing and hearing real live stories that show suffering and pain. Giving up your favorite snack had to be hard to do, and giving up your soda, but you have given me a stronger will to get to my idea wieght. Keep up the good work.

Man you gave me motivation. My will came in when a little boy told me I had gained so much weight that I would soon be bigger than the school. Thats when I just knew I had to do something,

WoW!!! Thanks for the sharing your story. It brought tears to my eyes. U have encouraged me to give away all of my little snacks, the funny thing is another Teacher and I just agreed not to eat any sweets for the next two months and I cheated. So not a really good start. However, I read your story just in time for me to make an intelligent decision. Thank u for the Blessing. Here We Go!!!!!! LOL!!!! :-) I start today!!! Congratulations!!!! ON ur success...

Winona:

All I can say is wow! What a powerful testimonial. Thank you so much for having the courage to share your story. It rings so true because most of us who have had a child and even some who have not are struggling with the issues that create the extra weight we carry around. You can go back to that 7-11 clerk and tell him that you gave birth - to a beautiful 140 pound you. Congratulations!
