Christina Brown

On April 14, 2007, one day after my 23rd birthday, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and type 1 diabetes and my weight was 315lbs. I knew then it was time to do something about it. I'd told myself many times before that I needed to get in shape but I was never motivated enough to stick to it. But after leaving the doctor's office and crying and saying to myself "Christina you are too young for all of this," I was determined that day to make a change in my health and in my life.

I heard about Dr. Ian and The Challenge by listening to one of my favorite morning radio shows (The Steve Harvey Morning Show), so I decided to join the challenge to see if I could maybe help more young people who might be going through some of the same things. Joining has also given me that extra push I needed to keep going. It feels good to be able to share my story and to read about other people who have also taken the challenge to change there life style (if you look at it we are helping keep each other motivated).

My exercise plan is very simple; I go to the gym three times a week. I spend 30min on the treadmill followed by some weight training to shape and tone those "problem areas." On the days I'm not at the gym I try to continue my exercise by dancing in my living room for at least 30-45min (to make sure I get my cardio exercise in). This along with a 1600 calories diet and CONSTANT PRAYER has been the key to my success.

Kevan:

I've been on the challenge since last August ...I had two goals...Get on a jet to the islands without a seatbelt extender and to shop at the regular mans store...Thanks to Dr. Ian's sharing of knowledge, I've gone from a 58 waist to a 46 (Just barely in the regular store). I started somewhere between 376 and 381, depending on which scale I used, lol...I weighed at the health club last week and was down to 310. When i first started I only walked 3 times a week, cause that's all I could do.

My eating habits have changed thanks to Dr. Ian and the challenge and my incredible energy level allows me to enjoy the health club 3-5 times per week. For the teammate who has bad knees...GET IN THE SWIMMING POOL! The water is where I lost a great deal (10-20 laps-3-5 times a week) and as my knees were also tender this was perfect...I Still do the water, but have added the elytical... The difference in my excercise this times is that I only do what I like..Swimming, the Elyptical(cardio) and a couple of times a week a trip thru the 9 machine "beginner's" circuit.

Faye:

I have started the 50 million lb. challenge about 1 month ago. I have only lost 4 lbs. but believe me I am a little discouraged. I am not giving up. I really haven't followed the diet exactly. I really felt that the food on the list was a little too much. It felt as if I was eating too much. I guess I have to eat what the plan is to see any results. Is this true or not.

Thanks, Faye

Nadine:

Congratulations. I've lost 5 lbs already. I'd like to know how long ago you started the plan and how much have you lost. Great job keep up th good work.

Martha Jackson:

I am having problems due to the fact I have bad knees and and I'm in need of knee replacement surgery. I can not eat fish due to alligries. I want to lose 40 pounds and I need to know what can I do to lose this weight.

I don't really know you and I can say I'm happy for you. I just start this weight loss program and I want to see what it can do for me. I've heard so many great stories and how people have lost so much weight. It makes me excited to get started.

Good luck to you and thank you for sharing your story.

Shonna:

Well, I fell off and now I am back on. I often need a goal to do anything in life. This weight lost process has been slow and sometimes non-existent. But that time has passed!! I just registered for an Iron Girl Competition, which will take place in Aug. 2009. It is a (.64miSwim, 17.1mi Bike, 3.4mi Run), I know it will be tough, but I am tough. Wish me well and I will keep you posted on my progress.

SHONDRICA :

I am having so much fun with my challenge. It is truly a blessing. It has helped me renew my thoughts about food and overall health and it taste good too. The teams and the daily journal are awesome. It helps to share the joy I feel. Thank you so much Dr. Ian, you are god sent.
