I learned about Dr. Ian by watching "Celebrity Fit Challenge," I was not a regular viewer but caught the show a few times. While watching the show I always wanted to be apart of that challenge but was not motivated enough (Lazy). I use to always say if I could go on the show, sit in front of that panel and be instructed as they are, I could lose weight but always use that excuse "If I could be on the show."
In July of 2007 my 9 years old son, who was then 8 years old was in the Dojo sparring and lost the fight because he became fatigue. I told my son that he is a good fighter but a good fighter who is not well conditioned will lose all the time. The next day I took my son to the park to run and at that moment when I reached approximatley 1/2 a mile I was holding my knees gasping for air. My lungs were burning and I just thought I was going to die.
After my run, I was confused and didn't understand. I knew I was overwieght but didn't realize that my 6 foot frame had packed on 340 lbs. Unfortunately the environment that I am from, large is healthy and that's what had be transcribed for me to understand, not the fact that me being overweight has contributed to my High Blood Presure and Atrial Fibrillation. I took a quick look at my situation (Children, Life, Career) and weighed my options. The two options were clear, to die early or take control of my life, so I logged on to Dr. Ian's 50 Million Pound Challenge.
Once I became a member of Dr. Ian's 50 Million Pound Challenge I felt good about taking control, I immediately spoke to my wife and kids and explained to them the change that was being made for the family and we began to empty out all the junk food out of the house. My wife agreed to cook healthy and cease the frying of any foods in our home. We didn't choose a diet, we chose a new way of life. I set small goals such as food intake a day, cardio duration, and calisthenics. I cut out soda and fruit juices completely but I drank tons a water a day. I excercised 3 days a week for about 15 mins beginning, which would be 1 mile walk and run, which would take me 11 to 12 mins and 5 mins of push ups and sit ups. I did that for approximately 2 weeks until my one mile walk/run was a solid run. I then increased to a 1.25 miles and 10 mins push ups and sit ups and I stayed with this routine for about 3 weeks and countiuned to increase. After about a year of working out I was able to run 4 to 5 miles every workout and I was running 5 days to 6 days a week.
My waist was a size 47 and I am now 37-38, my jacket size was 56 long and now I am a 46-38 long. My neck size was 19 1/2 now it 16 1/2. I no longer run long distance because it began to take a toll on my ankles, so now I spin 4 days to 5 days a week for approximately 45 mins to 1hr a workout.
The 50 Million Pound Challenge has allowed me to regain my life again. I have more control and confidence. I have been a working in Law enforcement now 12.5 years and I am in better shape now than I was when I graduated from the Police Academy. I recently tried out for the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and passed all the PT requirements with flying colors and that including 1.5 mile run less than 12 minutes.
On December 9th, 2008 A&E will be showing a show called "Manhunters" it a 21 episodes series featuring me Rasheen "Pep" Peppers in approximately 8 of those episodes and while your watching it you literally see the dramatic weight loss I just describe to you and you can log on to A&E to hear me discuss my wieght loss to the world and what the 50 Million Pound Challenge and God my Lord has done for me.

Pep,
I got so much motivation from reading your story. I am not as tall as you but I knw what it is like to drop pant sizes. I have only gone from a 42 to a 40 but I just got married 2 1/2 months ago. We went on a cruise for our honeymoon and I was in food heaven. I had ice cream cones in both hands. Later I had a big cup full of it and that was every day the whole cruise. I was ordering room service 2 and 3 in the morning just because it was available. It was luxury. I thought that I could maintain like I had been. I was 256 and got donw to 230-235 but I saw 256 AGAIN and was like this cant be. So I'm about to go for it again and by 2010 I really want to be the small me that Im really eager to get to. Either a 38 waist or 200 pounds which ever comes first. Thanks for sharing your story. Thats one more push that I needed!

Hey Pep
You ever been to Michigan to apprehend any clients(as we now refer to them as)? You look so familiar. I work in the the same field and think maybe somewhere in my last 12 years of law enforcement we may have bumped into each other.
Just curious:)
Have a good one!!

Pep, you look awesome !!!
Continue the success, cuz the inspiration is what keeps me, and I'm sure many others, striving for the best we can be. The message I see working through you and your good work is one you should be proud of and God sent.
Thank you, Rasheen, for all you strive for.
Oh btw... Love seeing the transformation on the show too. I work in the same field and know how important a good strong healthy body and mind is for our profession and what makes for a positive outlook and outcome when the atmosphere is full of negativity and strife.
Keep your angle in a positive direction and stay the course, your doing fantastic :)
Thanks again...

Good Morning Pep,
I wanted to first congradulate you on your success with the force and the weight loss challenge. Dedication pays off in the end. I too am from Newark and still reside there with my 2 daughters and fiance. I love the show and the dedication and committment you have made to your job. It clearly shows you have a passion for what you do.
Losing the weight would definately benefit your health, but improve your performance at work. Who wants to carry unneccessary weight around when running after a criminal....lol
I would love to know what regimen you followed to loose weight. I have been thin (but shapely) my whole life. Being 5 ft.7 inches and 150 pounds, but now as I get older, well you know things have changed some. I am really tired all the time and I read what you wrote about your wife...thats my story exactly, while I am not a size 16 I have gone from a size 7 to a 12 and believe me its comfortable. New people meeting me think I look good, but I can feel its just too much for my body...I am now 5 ft7 in and 180....The extra 30 pounds makes all the difference in the world. I would love to hear how your wife did it....
Be blessed and continue to be a successful inspiration to us all. You have shown the world that Greatness DOES still come out of Newark....

I just wanted to stop by and show my support to you. I am a huge fan of Manhunters: Fugutive Task Force and I am probably your biggest fan (well...male fan that is). The way you appear to genuinely be concerned about our youth is truly inspirational. I look up to u. And congrats on the dramatic weight loss! Also, FYI, I am an aspiring filmmaker who has a screenplay I am working on. One of the main characters is a dude named Darryl. When I first saw you on Manhunters,It was like Darryl had jumped off the pages of my screenplay. Rasheen, you look and act exactly the way I envisioned Darryl. When this piece becomes a feature film (and it will), don't be suprised if u hear from me. then U could read it & see what u think. But anyway, Blessings to u and your Family my friend.

Det. PEP
You are the MAN!! Congrat's on your accomplishments. I am currently working on my master;s degree in public safety, however I am interested in crime victims assistant program. What other areas does the field have to offer? I am not interested in prison, corrections, or parole; I'll leave that to those who have the heart for chasing criminals. My interest lies in those who have been affected by the acts of criminals. I what to work in areas where those affected can recieve restitution. The other issue I have is the weight lost challenge. What help could the challenge provide for those who have problems ulcers? Last but not the least; the show United States Marshall unit Manhunters lets a person know whatever the crime you commit if you have to hunt them down "they are food" "Done". May God continue to bless you in all your endeavors.

Well hello Det. Pep! I really admire you especially on Manhunters. You look awesome! You keep on doing what you have to do to stay in shape. I work with a local Narcotics Unit and some of them are not in shape at all. They come over the radio trying to scream information out about a fugitive when they run and sound terrible! Sometimes they just chase them with there vehicles! LOL. I think you (and other memebers of your team) does a great job. I like how you all work together and treat each other with kindness during difficult times. Is it like that for real or just cause the cameras are rolling?
Continue to be blessed!

Well I am a dear fan of the show and I am also trying to lose the weight. I am orginally from Newark, NJ but now I call the south home. (NC GO TARHEELS!) Your a inspiration to getting the job done professional and personal. Meaning that out of Newark the worst is expected from a black man and you have proving that wrong. Next with the weight lose letting people know that you can do with out dieting and mis-treating the body. I have not been to Newark for a visit in a while and when your in Newark I look to see if I can recognize the streets where you at but the sceen changes so fast. Best of Luck to U Pep! :-)

MY name is Kimberley I'm 34 with a 15 yr old son who is 6'6 375 lbs, he has a 52in waist, he eats pretty healthy and he loves fruit but the weight is still there. He is in good health no high blood pressure no anything but I don't want his weight to affect him in the long run. He plays sports and even swim but it seems like his weight is determined to stay on him, lol. What can I do gradually to help him, I don't want to rush him into a gym or some type of weight program cause he is still only 15 yrs old. P.S. LOVE THE SHOW, ALL U GUYS ON THE SHOW ARE GREAT.

Pep,
my husband and I watch manhunters all the time and even tivo at times if we miss an episode. both my husband and i love the episodes that you are on especially. I think you are a great inspiration to young african american males and that you have a persona that is very strong and encouraging to our youth. Congrats to your wife whom has lost alot of weight. I am a size 16 now and I hate it b/c before our 3 kids I was a size 5, so it is hard for me to look in the mirror now and see the bigger me, especially looking at old pictures of myself is extremely hard. I always give myself excuses as to why i cant lose weight, i'm in school, i work full time, have 3 kids, a husband and home to work, but i will do better and your letter gives me that much more motivation.

Hi...have been watching Manhunters. I don't envy you your job. I also think, those in law enforcement, don't get paid enough for their service. You face death each time you walk out the door. I can only say "God bless you, and thanks for a job well done." Your weight loss is a bonus, something that we can all accomplish. It just takes effort and dedication. Those same qualities you give in service to people of all colors. We all bleed red, have families we love, and face the same fears, no matter where we live. I pray our children will look at your example, and find a good role model. Our young folks need that, now more than ever before. Take care, Pep, you are a special gift from God. Have a Blessed day.............Carolyn G.

I've lost 23 so far, but it can be discouraging when the days get repetitive. I don't know if you even have extra time to fit in to help me out every now and then, but if you do and could help me maybe that is something you could add to your "wall of what i did in life"!.

Hey Pep,
WOW!!! I see that all these ladies beat me to the punch. First I want to say that you are AMAZING in every aspect. As for looks you are AMAZING & INCREDIBLE :o).
I am a 27 year old female from Newark. I have 2 addictions in life working out and school. I work at SHU (Seton Hall University) in South Orange, and am lucky enough to get a free education here. I am taking the Core Classes at the moment because I wasn't sure if I wanted to study Nutrition or Criminal Justice.
I started to watch MANHUNTERS on A&E and found that this is now my third addiction. I LUV IT! I LUV IT! (and you make it very nice to watch also). Simply put what you and your colleagues do is ADMIREABLE. So much so that I said to myself “this is it, I want to do this". Not only do I enjoy the thrill of the chase, and the rush you get, but I also want to be able to help our city, and make a difference. You are truly an inspiration.
On another note I decided to Google you today (had to show my girl here at work what you were working with.. lol), and noticed that you are also a part of the 50 million pound challenge. When do you sleep? Well if ever in need of a 4am partner I'm awake getting ready for the gym as well. However, you look like you are doing just fine. I wish you continued success.

You are very professional and get the job done.

I would like to compliment you on making the decision to become healthier by losing weigh.
This is only a compliment. I must say that you are very handsome with sexy eyes, sexy lips and the color of a hershey candy bar.

Hi Pep,
I started watching the US Marshal's show a couple of weeks ago. Since then I can't stop looking at the episodes and reruns of the show. The Latif Livingston one and the chick who stole $9,000 from the bank was a trip. I don't see how these people think they can get away with these crimes. Well I'm in Mexico City, Mexico for my job and WE NEED YOU ALL DOWN HERE!! Thank God I have Dish Network down here, I can see your show (every other show on A&E especially The First 48, and America's Most Wanted)!! As far as the 50 million pound challenge I'm logging on to that website as we speak. I am starting my challenge as of Jan. 5, 2008 again. I was doing the spinning and yoga 3 days a week. However, I slacked off for December. I even now have one of my co-workers wanting to join. I'm going to eventually increase to 4-5 days a week, but you have to take one step at a time. Thanks for being a male role model to the kids in Newark. One more thing, could you please put that wedding ring on, I had no idea you were married.
Thanks,
Jamillah

Congrats and keep the momentum. I have not been consistent at the gym so my best friend got her membership back as a way to motivate herself as well as motivate me. We started on Jan. 2 so the motivation effort did help, we will see where this goes. Good luck and be safe out there. May God's best forever be yours!

Wow, I see I'm not your only fan. Disappointed to hear that you're married, but glad to know that someone gets to have you :).
Keep up the good work. Once you start eating healthy, it's actually hard to go back to heavy foods, so it's actually easier than people think.

Again, Thanks so much for the love and comments, congratulations to those who I inspired to change to a healthy lifestyle.
I want to first make a comment about Emilio Medina, DON'T DIET, just change your eating habits. There are plenty of good food that you already like that you can eat. Diets don't last! Change your way of eating, experiment with different foods and see what you like. If you have to have a beer, do in moderation and look at the light beers. And soda can be your worse enemy, especially with the sugar. I recommend you drink diet sodas but again I personally not big on diet sodas. Good Luck EMILIO MEDINA and don't give up. Thanks for your comment. Pep
Tosha, you, me and plenty of other people in the world have gained a little weight over the holidays. Don't be discourage your not in it alone. Lets go back to what we were doing and burn it off together. I was ill for the last few days and couldn't workout but I can't weight to get into the gym on Saturday, so I can have fun melting the extra weight away. Don't give up, minor setbacks can be overcome. Please let me know how its working out. Thanks, Pep.
Miriam Thibodeaux, I am blushing, I am glad you like the show. I am very passionate about my work and enjoy helping people a lot, Thanks for being apart of my world. Pep

You have inspired me to make a healthy life style change that will help become second nature for me and my family. Much love and wishes to you and your family.

Hi, Rasheen
I lost 5 pounds during 2008; but I gained it all back this Christmas. I try to drink lots of water like you do, but I can't resist an occasional can of beer and can of Coke. I am 60 years old and the doctor said I tend to be obese, so I have to go on a diet.
Your story has enthused me to go into a daily exercise program: walking and biking for one mile every day. I got to sweat the excess pounds off my system.
Peace!
Emil

First, I would like to say "Happy New Year" to all who have come to my page and commented. You don't know how thankful and appreciative I am for you.
Secondly,I would personally like to extend my gratitude to Mikki Zimmerman, Wendy Harrison, Felecia Johnson, and Renee, for there recent comments. For those of you that commented because you seen me on the show (Manhunters) and found me on the 50 Million Pound Challenge and are inspired to get healthy, this is where it started for me. It's not easy, I had my ups and downs during my weight loss. Don't think that it's just you. Pick any cardio activity your good at or you have fun doing and go for it. Please stay in touch.
Lastly, for those of you that are trying to hook-up, sorry, wrong site and wrong person. I am flattered that you adore me but I am married. Please, if you wanna to reach me about any other than weight loss, I can be contacted at www.myspace.com/manhunterspep.
Thanks you Peace, Love, and Respect. Pep

Detective Peppers, I watched your show for the first time last night and was hooked. I came into work today and googled your name and the first site the popped up was the 50 million pound challange. After reading your story I decided to join. I had already decided that my new years resolution was to change my diet and start exercising but I think this challenge will give me the push that I need. Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching your success on Manhunters (PS...It is a fantastic show) Thanks, Renee

Hello Rasheen:
I am not doing the wait lost thing, but I wanted to reach out to you. I wish I could reach out to you in a not so public way. However, this is the only way I found that I could reach out to you at all. I would really like to meet you in person. It is not about the show. I don’t care about that. I’m just happy it is on because that provided me with the opportunity to come across the lovely smile.
Please send me an e-mail. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. I live in Washington, DC, I am 36, no children, and have a good job, and, is willing to take the road trip to Newark. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Be safe and have a good day!

Kalisha and Tara, thanks for your comments and I apologize for my late response but I like to say to the both of you that everyday is a new day. What happen yesterday is in the past, just continue towards your goal that you set. Believe me when I say this, when EVER you come down on yourselves for not exercising, or for eating bad, you discourage your self motivation. Remember "We are not perfect" Therefore, we learn from our mistakes and recognize our weaknesses, allowing us to start a brand new day and put the past behind. "Don't Give Up!"

I have read all of the comments and I would like to say thank you for them. Remember losing weight is not easy but if you remember that your doing it for a better quality of life than things will become easier. Meaning, stop watching others and wanting to have unrealistic figures as some folk that have genetically picture perfect bodies. Love yourself unconditionally and embrace your outcome that your hard work produces. Furthermore, make time for yourself, I understand with todays world we are constantly on the go but you have to make time for yourself. You don't need 2-3 hours in the gym, believe me. If you are not training for the Olympics or some other professional sport, 30 to 45 mins of cardio 5 days week and some muscle strengthen is all you need. Oh yeah! Don't forget to be more caution about foods you eat, especially you "Non-Cookers", be wise in your food selection and drink lots water. Try a gallon a water a day for a month and watch the difference in your body.
P.S. My wife was a size 16 in January 2008, when she decided to join my workout plan. My wife now is a size 8 falling close to a 7. My wife started out with the same excuses No Time, My Kids (3),My Work and Too Tired. Now she still do all those things while she raises a happy, healthier family.

Congrats to you!
I joined, then didn't follow through - since then, I've gained 3 whole pounds - and I cannot blame the holidays as do many folks - I barely ate! It's the day-to-day grind that affects me. I'm in NYC, up at 5 AM to get to work for 9 AM.
Where do I fit in exercise in the morning and I'm too wiped out in the evenings after 2 hours commuting!
I find I now lack motivation to exercise -- I now live alone and sit all day at work, and am one of the few women who just hate to cook (yes.. we do exist) I've gotten to the point where I don't even look at myself nude, in the mirror anymore; having always had a beautiful, trim body, what I see is an awful sight - it's like looking at another woman's body!
But...... thanx for your story!! Perhaps I can get it to motivate me.
~Robin~

I met Pep about a year ago when I began filming with him for the Manhunters TV series. Within 20 minutes of our meeting, Pep had me running side by side on treadmills with him, showing me a new technique for maximum calorie burn. Over the past 10 months I have watched Pep shrink before my very eyes. His dedication to getting healthy has served as a constant source of motivation and inspiration for me. Whenever I don't feel like getting out of bed to hit the gym, I simply realize that Pep was likely was up at 4am and had had already finished his workout. If Pep can find time for "two-a-days" with his insane schedule on the Task Force, being a husband and dad, and shooting a tv series, then mere mortals like me can surely find the time to sweat.
Thanks Pep for your amazing spirit and for the example you set.

GREAT JOB!!! I am a mom of a 4 year old... I was a size 2 in juniors before I had her now I am a size 13 in juniors and I feel so disgusting.... I watch Biggest Loser Families.. and some of the women are getting close now to my weight and I see how they look, and don't get my wrong they look FANTASTIC compared to when they started, but I wondered to myself, do I look like that too? I used the same excuse that you did.. if I was on the show and had a personal chef cooking for me and a trainer and my disposal 24 7 I would lose 8lbs a week too... I want to lose 30 lbs but I can't get moving. I started losing weight and going to the gym regularly... but it wasn't working for me really. I lost 1lb in 3 months... but a lot of inches. I got discouraged and I was told because I am not really that big (156 lbs) that I will lose weight slower.... I am frustrated can you give any inspirational words???

I can't seem to get back on track....any advice?
I've been inactive for quite some time. The longer I am away and not eating right. The more lbs I put on and the more discouraged I get.
Don't want to get too far off track and never get back.
HELP!

I read your story yesterday and this morning while jogging I stopped and started walking, usually I would beat myself up over it but I thought about what you said (how the process takes time) and I caught my breath and then continued on with my jogging. I had a great run! Thanks for the motivation.

Hey everybody, I just turned 50 the 17 of this month. I just joined tonight when sitting watching TV and saw the add for this challenge. I have been on a weight loss program now, in my community but, I have not had the ability to stick with it. I get motivated but then after a couple of days, maybe a week, I get side tracked. I loose my get up and go, or maybe my interest, to do it the right way. I'm hoping this will help, due to the fact, I get on my computer now more often then before, (I'm a new grandmother and I keep my granddaughter). It all started when I got a total hystorectomy, I have Hypo-thyroid (which I could be big as a house), I quit my job to stay home with my mother (she passed away 7 mos. ago) but found myself going into a deep depression over loosing her. For six months I have just sat in my chair, cried, watched TV and ate. I just didn't care anymore. I believe in God and I know we are the keeper of our temple. I haven't kept watch over mine to good here lately.
I know I can make a difference in my life with this challenge, but I need a partner that is willing to communicate on a daily basis to keep motivated and who knows what I'm going through. I know I can do it, it's just laziness on my part. I was a Activity Director in a Nursing Home and in Assisted Living facility. I did daily exercise with my residents. I challenged them on a daily basis to keep fit for their health. It does make a difference in you life when your healthy. If you exercise in the morning you will be more energetic throughout the day. You will be sore but this will fade away within a couple of days. I know this for a fact. I've just gotten lazy. I even have the whole series of the HIP HOP Abs on DVD. This is the reason I know this 50million challenge will work for me. I'm excited, I'm starting my exercise tomorrow (Hip Hop Abs) & I'm going to the grocery store with my grocery list. That is one thing that I have never been given and it's really simple stuff to have around in your kitchen. I'm glad someone is out there with me going through the same thing. If you need a daily partner, then let me know. I'm ready to get back into shape. Do you need a partner to keep you pumped? e-mail me, I'm ready..........Yea!

Congrats, Pep.
I will attest to Pep's dramatic weight loss, as I was one of the people following him around with a camera for 8 months. He's so into fitness, that I cannot imagine what he was like before he got into it. People who haven't seen him in a long time are shocked when they run into him on the street. Congrats, Pep.
