This year we're having fun while losing weight.
Our data shows that those who join a team on the site lose 20% more weight than those who don't. Medical research confirms this and reports that those who have a support or buddy system lose more weight and are more successful at keeping it off longer. So we thought we'd have a teams competition to have some fun while building this critical support.
This contest won't officially start until March 2nd, but we want to give you an advance notice so you can get ready to go when it starts!
Here's what you can do to get ready.
Make sure you're registered at 50millionpounds.com.
Join a team of 10 or more or start your own team. If your already part of a team, that's fine and you can still be part of the contest, but make sure the team has at least 10 members.
Lastly, get an understanding of the healthy lifestyle principles that are contained in Dr. Ian's new book, The 4 Day Diet™. How well you can embrace and demonstrate these priciples will be one of the important criteria in deciding a winner.
Remember, the contest doesn't officially start until March 2nd, but don't wait!
Get busy right now and get a jump. Your experience, lifestyle changes, and success on the program will make your story all the more compelling!

The fact that you're still trying on your own shows great determination. I admire that, because I know how hard it is to do this alone.

Hi everyone, I am Cindy, I am 47 and live in Upstate NY. Wow, what a great site this is. I have read just a few of the recent entries and it was like I was writing it myself. I have a big wake up call, and if it wasn't for a small fender bender(unfortunely with my bus, I drive a school bus, no one hurt)I thought I was fine. What a surprise I was in for. It is normal when an accident happens, even though no one was hurt, that all on the bus go and get checked out by the EMS. Of coarse my blood pressure was up, I just had an accident. But it just wouldn't go down, hence, can't work with it at 150/100, until my own doctor gives the ok, which she didn't. The biggest wake up call was when she said you have high blood pressure, Type 2 dietbeties, and high cholesterol, and not going back to work till you see a cardiologist, wham right in the face, hit hard. I have always had a weight problem, right from my early teens. I like my food for sure, but now its killing me and I can't let that happen. I am a new step grandma, so new April 1st. I want to see this little guy grow up and know me, but at the rate I am going now, I will be lucky to see his 1st birthday. I come from a "big boned" family, yeah with extra meat on all of us. I am only 7 years from the age that I lost my Dad. Whole family right from Grandparents, uncles, great uncle and Dad all had dietbeties and heart problems. So now is the 1st day of a healthier me. Anyone out there that wants to correspond with me, I am here. I have MySpace and gladly will take friend requests, www.myspace.com/wickeddriver

Sabrina, Please don't get discouraged just because no one has contacted you. The fact that you're still trying on your own shows great determination. I admire that, because I know how hard it is to do this alone. Just keep doing what you're doing. You're not alone in this struggle.

I am about to give up on this link, when it comes to teams. I read all of the time it's better to have team members. But thus far since I've joined in Nov. I have entered 2 teams and not one team captain or anyone has contacted me. So I am still doing this on my own, and am getting frustrated. My motivation is slowly dwindling away.

My name is Thelma Lucas I am a senior citizen and want to lose 45 pounds. So far I have lost 20 pounds. I am following the suggested shopping list and meals. I am not eating after 7pm, this is my biggest problem. I fool around all day and have been settling down around 9-10pm to eat dinner. I am avoiding desserts and gave up desserts for Lent. That has really helped me kick the sweet habit. I have also started to exercise and I walk in the mall with my sister- in -law Sylvia and friend Gloria. I power walk for an hour ( about 5 miles) and I feel wonderful. I go for 5 days a week but no less than 3 in some cases. I am trying to lose weight because I want to be healthy and live a long life. I want to enjoy my grandchildren and great grands. This 50 million pound challenge is the greatest.

I'm 46 years old and last week I bumped into a old friend that I hadn't seen in years and she asked me if I was pregnant. My last pregnancy was almost 15 years ago. I don't want anyone to ask me that question again. I need support to stick with this plan. I'm determined to lose at least 50 pounds.

Greetings to everyone,
I have been on a mission since the end of Feb 09. So far I have lost roughly 20 lbs and I will continue go drop my weight in order to gain a healthier lifestyle. I am 33 yrs old and currently 353 pounds. As a child I was always active and extremely athletic. Once I graduated from high school I was no longer in all of those activities that kept me slim and trim and I started to pack on the weight. I come from a big family so dinner time was always like a buffet. Food was not to be wasted so you ate what was on your plate (every single crumb). Those same ideas about food stayed with me as an adult up until now.
Thanks to God I do not have high blood pressure or diabetes but my current physical situation certainly puts me at risk for that and much more. At this point I am trying to undo 16 years worth of damage. I go to the gym almost every day and now I eat very healthy. My family and my boyfriend's family is what keeps me motivated and I don't want to let them down.
I have always been a strong minded and confident person. In saying that, I am not doing this for self esteem reasons nor am I doing it so that I can fit into a size 5 pair of jeans. But instead, I am doing this so that I can have a better quality of life physically.
I live in Houston so if there are any teams who will have me, please contact me at kmfrank75@aol.com.
Best wishes each and every person who is a part of this challenge. I encourge you all to stay focused and I ask that you do the same for me.
WE CAN DO IT!!!

My name is Joey CoCo Diaz aka Joey Karate, you might know me from my videos or me doing stand up comedy. Anyway, I'm 44 years old and I weighed 373 pounds. It was starting to effect me. I have been swimming and going to Kung Fu, and I wasn't losing the weight. I read a article about exercise wasn't enough in the battle against obesity.
I knew about Dr Ian from his show on VH1, and my friend RALPHIE MAY, said great things about him, so I read his book. I really enjoyed it, and understood what he saying, to prepare mentally.
In January, I joined Weight watchers, to keep me in check. I now weigh 344 lbs, and feel alot better. My goal weight is 299 pounds, and with the help of this site, and exercise and diet, I expect to reach my goals, and help others with theres. I'll be in touch, keep reading, eat that apple!!

But my overall goal is 80 pounds. I don't know how long it will take me, but I will continue with this journey of mine as long as it takes. I know that their are others like me who struggle with weight and want to work at being healthy. I am starting a group in Warner Robins. Look us up, I would love for your to join.

Hi Dr. Ian and fellow lifestyle changers-
Hooray for the 50 million pound challenge! I joined the 50 million pound challenge and started the food plan from the web site on Jan. 5th and went through it twice. Then I purchased Dr. Ian's book, "The 4 Day Diet" and decided to go for it all the way. I am ready. I love the team concept and we have some phenomenal women on my team (Women of Substance--check it out if you're interested!)
I am a 51 year old woman who has been quite heavy since my early 30s. As each year has passed I would gain a bit more until finally I had ballooned up to 370 lbs! WHOA! Oh I tried various diets here and there....but always seemed to get to a plateau after 25-50 lbs lost and would just stop...I'm not sure why.
To date I have lost 28 lbs in just under 11 weeks. Holy cow! I am a happy camper and I feel so good. I have lots and lots to go, but with this plan I can do it. I rarely feel hungry. It's doable, you just have to be ready to do it! I've also incorporated 30-45 min of exercise into my life 4-6 times a week. Of course that helps lots.
Thank you Dr. Ian for making your plan so available and creating the 50 million pound challenge. I'm very grateful!
Keep on Keeping on Challengers! We can do this!

Hello, I am over weight and have tried all kinds of diet programs, well as of March 3,2009 that stops. I now am 50 million pound challenger. This means i have to challenge myself to do better than the first time.for me this is a big deal because i am 39 with High Blood Pressure,I am also on Dialysis. So lossing the weight will decrease my blood pressure,I've changed my eating habits, I try to follow Dr.Ian's Meal Plan but i get hungry an hour after eating such small portions,But i have to and i will stick to it. I have two beautiful kids that want to give me a Kidney and i refuse to let them because i will turn my situation around. This is an emotional journey for me. Because of denial i refuse to admit how big i've gotten, until one day i saw a picture of myself and had to face reality I've gained so much weight and now i am determined to take it off.I don't ahve help at home because my kids are away in School so I've turned to Dr.Ian .I hope this will be the last program i try. Ready to lose 200Lbs and I WILL.

Hi everyone. I am 35 yrs old, a wife and mother of 5. My goal is to lose a LOT of weight and to firm up and live a healthier life. I don't intend to diet. I intend to do a lifestyle change. When my husband and I were younger, we could eat anything we wanted and not gain weight. Unfortunatly, that does not apply now :( I am 5'4 and 219lbs and want to get down to 160lbs. I currently do 30 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of weight lifting, which has always been my favorite exercise. My husband is 6'1 and 248lbs. He has high blood pressure, so healthy eating is a must for him! I have lost 11 pounds in 2 wks and he has lost 8. We are in South Carolina and anyone wanting to join our group is more than welcome!

Hi everyone: I read each comment and we all basically have goals and determination. And it's good to be able to reach out to others for help, advice, support, and encouragement. I know I need to stop eating all the red meats, pork, chips, candy bars, etc. I'm so bad that for breakfast I'll eat spare ribs, mac & cheese, and greens that was left over from dinner. I grew up learning to cook with fatty substances and food that are rich in flavor...shame, shame, shame. However, I'm learning now that season-all can be subsituted for herbs, cut out everything that is white (i.e bread, salt, flour, sugar) and eat healthier and in moderation. I am 5 ft. and 3 in. tall, weighing in at 200lbs and my goal is to lose at least 50lbs and to exercise. Now this is where the problems start, exercising. Who has the time...So having a support group will inspire me to do what is necessary. Good luck to everyone and as the Bible says, "we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us."

I am a 35 year old woman in the Los Angeles area. I had been sruggling with my weight for the last year. I went from weighing 145lbs in August 2007 to a whopping 182lbs right after the holidays in 2008. I was fed up and unhappy with my weight! A friend at work gave me a copy of your "FAT SMASH DIET". I started the program on Janurary 5, 2009 and as of today, I have lost 21 lbs!! I am still continuing to lose at a rate of 1-2 pounds a week. I feel great!! I am working out 5-6 days a week and I'm full of energy and actually look forward to my workouts. I am also glad to say that the "FAT SMASH DIET" is wonderful and it works. I am 5'3 and my goal is 140 lbs by the end of April. 19 lbs to go!
Thanks so much Dr. Ian, you are a great inspiration and you make losing weight fun!!

Hi Everyone!
I posted on Feb 2nd, after I'd lost 9 lbs in 8 days. Well, I finished the 28 Days of Dr. Ian's 4-Day Diet. I re-started it on Monday (on Day 4 now) and I am pleased to say that I have officially lost 20 lbs in 32 days. My mom is on the 'plan' with me, but mostly we just use each other for support. I plan my meals ahead of time, and it's pretty easy to stick to. If anyone needs any support or has any questions, I'd be happy to offer my suggestions. The plan is so exciting, since I've seen such quick results. It DOES involve going to the gym almost every day (throw some Britney Spears on the ipod, and jump on the elliptical!), but when you start seeing results it gets easier to do!
Good luck to everyone.

I am 26 years old for the last 2 years since I have had my son weight has been going up and down I actually lose weight and got smaller than I was before I had him. After losing my job and sitting home and eating bun buns I am more ready thenn every. Working out has never been a problem for me I love working out. But what I realized about working out with a partner is it can be good but at the same time partners are not RELIABLE you and them may not have the smae goals. So now I work out alone.
My motto is 09 and don't have time.

Well today I commit myself to being consistent with working out. I HATE working out alone especially when I get to the gym I see people that are more healthy, thin...
If there's anyone in Greensboro, NC that wants to workout, please let me know.

Hi Everybody,
I'm new to this. I just joined a few minutes ago and I'm nervous. I really don't understand how this works yet and I'm new to using the computer, so I'm alittle confusterated at this time. Willing to except all help and suggestions. FYI confusterated means confused and frustrated.

Hello All, I decided to come back to the challenge. I drifted off like I normally do but after a recent back surgery I know it is time to get serious about changing my lifestyle. I have decided that enough is enough. I look at my beautiful grand daughters and I have decided that I want to dance at their weddings. I want to give them the priviledge of having a grandmother around since their mothers did not have the priviledge of having their grandmothers at their weddings. It is time to break that cycle.

I JUST STARTED A TEAM IN KATY TX CALLED "IT'S ABOUT CHANGE" I'M LOOKING FOR MEMBERS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO ENCOURAGING EACH OTHER, AND MAKING A POSITIVE CHANGE IN THEIR LIVES. MY SON LOST 50 POUNDS IN ABOUT 4-6 MONTHS AND COMPLETELY CHANGED HIS BODY, HIS SUCCESS MADE ME REALIZED IT CAN BE DONE BUT ONLY IF YOU MAKE THE DECISION, IT HAS TO COME FROM INSIDE. SO LET'S DO THIS TOGETHER IN KATY TX AND MAKE OURSELVES HAPPIER... HEALTHIER... AND PROUD!!!

Hi all. I am new as of today, but am commited to getting healthy at 50. We all face daily challenges, each person has a different story. The only way to keep the weight off permanetly is healthy eating habits and exercise. I am adopting this as a new way of life. I do not want the handfulls of drugs to control my every day living. I have joined a gym, and commit at least 1-1/2 hours three times a week to this. The best way to stick to a meal plan is to prepare the meals in containers that you can freeze, so that they are always at the ready. The old saying and apple a day is true, and they are a filling snack. I am ready for a healthier living and will be glad to help anyone stay motivated to do the same.

Hi everyone,
I am 47 y/o. I live in NYC and walk alot which has helped me maintain my weight. I have 5 children and have managed to stay around 135lbs. However, I lost control around Nov and have started coming to my senses now that I am inching towards 150lbs. My clothes do not fit and for me I am uncomfortable with my lack of self-control.
So, my goal is to lose 20-25 lbs and to keep my weight between 125-135lbs which is good for my 5'4" medium frame. Some might not think I have a weight problem. Maybe in your eyes I do not, however, I have an "eating problem. It's not about the numbers. It's about being healthy and feeling good about taking care of yourself.
The other thing I'd like to mention...some of you are on plateaus, others are wondering what to eat or not eat. I'd like to suggest that you elinimate diet from your vocabulary and get on a "live-it." Just find a program that is comfortable for you and stick with it for life. I have not yet purchased the 4-day plan yet but it sounds like something I could live with for its simplicity and flexibility (from what I saw on the "View" although Barbara W. seemed to bash his every comment.) I think you have to learn to plan when you are going to restrict certain foods from your body if its detrimental but sometimes allow yourself a break without going crazy. This has what has worked for me in the past. I would NEVER go over 140 lbs, but... this holiday season I did...
So, I would appreciate the support to help me acheive my goal of taking better care of myself and attaining optimum health by eating right and working out to increase my strength and endurance. Personal meetings in NYC, phone calls or emails all work well for me. I'm going to focus on only 10lbs at a time-less stress. So, holla back if you'd like. Peace & blessings everyone, Judi ... my email is msbronson2001@yahoo.com

I want to stop fighting this 'weight problem' which has been the bane of my whole life. I eat well, no junk or fast foods and I stopped eating anything 'white/refined' over thirty years ago. but no matter how many times I lose these same 50 lbs my body sets itself back. the longest I succeeded in keeping it off was 11 years. It gets tougher and tougher. What the food producers and manufacturers sneak into foods of every kind, and what we have stripped out of the natural foods by mistreating our earth is what I believe to be the main cause for many of us obese people. So let's not always feel like failures -

Hello everyone, especially you Indiana folks. I am a newbie as of today and ready to get started. Like many others, I have had multiple health issues "pop up" in my life these past couple of years and most of them are directly attributed to my weight gain (diabetes and high blood pressure being the main ones). I found it useful to get daily meal planning, calorie, fat and exercise information by joining another website that I had to PAY to be a member of to get this information. So I am looking forward to being able to access similar information right here on Dr. Ian's website, not have to come out of pocket AND have a "community" of support. Thanks Dr. Ian
ALSO, I see there are several teams in the Fort Wayne, IN area. I would like for one of the active teams to invite me to join them so I can participate in the upcoming contest. (I reside in the West end of town)

Hi everyone, I am a 38 year old female, married 20 years, with two teenage boys currently weighing 240. About two years ago I was finally diagnosed with hypothroidism (giving creadence to things that were wrong with me) Then about a year ago, I was diagnosed with osteo-arthritis of the knee. In spite of it all and being told that I have an 80 year old knee and that knee surgery was not an option but to lose weight. It was at that point that I decided that I had to take the weight off, I was at 298 at that point. I know in my mind that this weight didn't come on over night but I am having a horrible time right now taking it off. I have been on a plateau for about 2 1/2 months, and can't seem to break it. I ride a stationary bike 6 days a week - 10 miles a day, and have just recently started weight training. I am taking in about 1250 calories a day and can't seem to get out of this slump. I have lost a total of 5 sizes but the scale isn't moving, any suggestions? I am lost and discouraged with the scale not moving.

Since starting the challenge I've lost a total of 17 lbs and I feel great! My goal is to lose another 35lbs and to be HOT this summer. I'm continuing the my journey one day at a time and setting realistic goals. The next goal that I plan to obtain is to be under 170lbs before March 1st. Thanks to the 50 Million Pound Challenge and my team Power House Inc. I know I can do it! Watch out world, Tracie's coming out!

I have read the previous blogs and definitely believe this is where I need to be for support. I am a 27 yr old, 5'5, 295 lb frame. I am miserable. I have tried almost every diet out there, but just have not found the support to keep me motivated. I have been overweight all my life and feel that my biggest distraction is the fact that I cannot see myself any other way (sad, but true). I recently tuned into the Steve Harvey Morning Show and heard about the 4-day Diet Book and went to purchase it. I want to lose this weight not only for myself, but for my future family. I want to be confident, I want to be happy and I want to shop in the trendy stores. If anyone is still accepting team members for this upcoming challenge, please let me know because I am all in.
Thanks,
Tasha

I am very excited and full of hope to be starting this diet. It will be my new way of living.
My health is bad but alot of that has to do with my weight and my attitude of loosing weight alone. It just doesnt work for me so I am praying that this 50 million pound challenge is the answer for me.
I hope to be there for the group and together we can loose all those pounds that have held us down all these years.
Good luck to everyone -

The topic of this blog is truly very familiar to me..."I'll do it tomorrow". I have lived by this motto concerning my weight for all of my adult years. I am now 35 years old (as of Jan.19) and am finding it extremely difficult to lose the almost 100 pounds I've packed on since college. I can truly say that I'm not quite sure when or how my weight got out of control. It seems as though one minute I was stressing to lose an extra ten pounds and the next minute it was almost 100! I have struggled with this issue for so long that at this point I am feeling somewhat hopeless. I joined this program on yesterday hoping that the support of others will motivate me to do what I already know I need to do. I have high blood pressure like most in this area. It is somewhat out of control right now and I know the prime suspect is my weight. When I think of the amount of weight I have to lose, I get so overwhelmed because I have started and stopped so many times. I really need some encouragement at this point.

Dr. Smith, I started the challege 16 days ago and I have already lost 11 pounds. I haved enjoyed trying foods I normally wouldn't eat. My comment is that I need to have more info. about the foods on the daily menus. One day I could have had a fruit smoothie but I wasn't sure how to make it for this diet. Do I get this information in your book or is there a section I missed? One day I could have a small piece of pizza but what kind? So, I have felt alittle lost. Any comments would be great. Thanks! P.S. I now officially love veggie burgers!!!

I am interested in knowing how many calories a day the 30 Day Meal plan is based on? I have started to plan our meals for "after Wednesday, but want to make sure I'm in the right calorie range"

I recentaly started a challenge at my job the goal is who every looses the most weight in July wins. At first I was not going to do this because everytime I plan to start to loose some weight I feel I do not have any support and since I decided to try this new challenge for me my goal is to not only loose some weight but to live a most healthier life I know I can with the support of wonderful people like you.

I have just finished my 30th day of Dr, Ians diet and have lost 22lbs. I am still going to continue on this life saver for me. I have tried just about every diet and have spent hundreds on meal plans (that tasted terrible) and did not lose anything. And in December I even consulated a doctor about having the LAP BAND procedure done after finding out I would have to be on a diet for 6 months prior to this surgery (plus spending another $8000 to have it) I was watching the biggest loser and saw the commerical for the 50millionpound challange and said let's try it and see what happens. Well I am now happy with the results and do not think about getting the lap band. I have more energy now than I have had in the last 3 or 4 years and look forward to weighing myself every week to see the pounds come off.
THANK YOU DR. IAN YOU SAVED ME IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE SINCERELY KATHY ZAWADZKI

Hey Lakisha Williams,
Your support system is right here! I know it's not the same when you're fighting to resist oh, I don't know,.. pizza night or something, but hopefully you can always log in for a mental booster! Managing diabetes can be a challenge, oh trust me chile, mamma knows! :0)
But the improtant thing to remember is to take one ...single....day....at...a...time.
I still have a hard time because when I'm tired, the family will eat whatever I let them eat be it pizza, lousiana chicken, you name it. So I applied this for my more healthy way of eating now. Don't like what's in the fridge- eat it or starve!
When I'm tempted to dip back in my normal ways of dealing with life, eating and stress I repeate- If I always do what I've always done, I'll always get what I've always got. Basically saying if you keep aproaching this as too much of a challenge by nature you'll give up. I always have. But these days, I'm setting one goal at a time. My goal for today was to get up and go to the gym. I did (and that 25 mins. on the bike was a killer) but I met my goal for the day. My other goal for today is to not eat a cookie at the staff meeting later. So I brought friut! I'm not sure what city you're in, but I have just about every article on diabetes! If you're intrested, I'm sure we can work something out...
One day at a time..

I wanted to lend a hand to Kisha. Her comments were posted by Lakisha Williams. I know that it is hard to lose weight without a support system or friends to cheer you on. I'm not sure where you are located but if you need someone to talk to and to help I would be more than happy to be an ear and hopefully a friend to help you. I understand what it is to be overweight and to be surrounded by people that are much smaller than you. Kisha I am also a wife and a mother of 3 small children and please understand that you can lead them to better eating habits and lifestyle change. They might be looking at you for that start. I really dont know how to get this message to you but I will continue to check the site for a responds. I hear your cry for help and I wanted you to know someone is listening. I am walking this journey of losing weight and changing my mind, body, and, spirit and I would love to walk it with a new friend.

I started the 4-Day Diet last Monday; today is Day 8. When I woke up this morning and weighed myself, I was SHOCKED to find that I had lost 9 POUNDS! I followed the program exactly the way it said to, including the 40 minutes of cardio per day. I feel so energized, and I'm excited to be on the way to a new and thinner me. I know many people will not have the quick results as I did, but this program is SO easy to follow and I never felt that I wasn't eating enough. For those of you who are questioning your ability to lose weight, this program is not difficult at all. And you WILL see results. Good luck everyone.

I started at 195 pounds and I am now down to 185 pounds...I plan to weigh in on February 2, I try not to weigh in too much. My goal is to loose about 40 pounds. I am looking forward to the March 1st contest. I am determined to loose this weight not only for myself, but as inspiration to my friends who have not made the committment for a healthier life style. I started out on your first book and plan to purchase the new 4 day diet.
