Fred's before and after picture.

I weighed 285 lbs in January of '09 (in the tuxedo on the right). I saw pictures of myself in my best friends wedding and was completely disgusted with myself. It was the heaviest I had ever been. I decided that I had to do something, but what? Well, luckily I was watching the Bonnie Hunt Show the day that Dr. Ian Smith was on to promote his book, "The four day diet." He spoke about the new website that he launched.

I decided to dive in head first, completely committed. What did I have to lose, besides the pounds? I followed the meal plan, walked for one hour per day, and did cardio exercise for at least a 1/2 hour each day. And six months later, look at me now. It was hard work, but Dr. Ian's 50 Million Pound Challenge gave me the tools I needed to make it happen. Thank you Dr. Ian! I could not have done it without you! I have lost 80lbs. in six months and could not be happier. I look and feel amazing! I owe it all to you Dr. Ian, and your 50 Million Pound Challenge! If you REALLY WANT IT, YOU CAN DO IT! I am living proof. If you're tired of being overweight, step up to the Challenge and give it your all, IT REALLY WORKS!

Wow. That's impressive! Sadly, I signed up in 2007-lost 5 pounds and stopped documenting. 2 years later, I'm back at the same starting weight & unmotivated. Reading your story makes it seem so attainable. Walk an hour and do cardio for 30 minutes? I'm gonna give it another go. You look amazing. Congratulations and thanks for your story!

Fred Gaston:

Fred,

I am Fred also and I was amazed by your story. I also saw a picture of myself and was disgusted. The result is that I am probably in the best shape of my life. From a 42 waist to a 34 waist. At 47, I love it. I will be going back for my college homecoming for the first time in 25 years. Keep up the good work.

FScott:

thanks for sharing your story and picture. I'm striving for the same results. Hopefully I'll be able to share some positive results with everyone in the near future too.

Charice L. Thomas:

Hi Dr. Ian,

I am writing to see if you would be updating the website with a calorie counter. I know we have a exercise tracker but this addition would be helpful to us too. Thanks!

If it is already a tool on the site, forgive me but I do not know how to get to it.

Charice

Congrats Marcella,

I joined the 50 Million Pound Challenge last week. Your story has been the very inspiring to me. I have been on all the weight lost programs. Your story touches me the most, because you lost the weight for yourself not for someone else. This is what a lot of women, young and older need to learn is to love themselves and the rest will come later. If we focus, we can find that 1/2 hour or hour to excercise. I break up my exercise in 15 minute spots during the day. By the end of the day I have an hour. Sometimes I put in 15 minutes on the stationery bike while watching TV. Stay on your journey.

Have a blessed day!

Kyrston:

Congratulations Fred! I'm very happy for you! So far I've lost 50lbs on the challenge and have another 50lbs to go!

tamika conner:

You look absolutely great! and in only 6 months wow! I hope that I can get my act together.
