Carrie EmersonI learned about the challenge on TV. At first, I didn't think I would be able to lose the weight so I didn't sign up on the website. I did not want anyone to know if I failed. I had recently broke off my engagement and lost my job. I found that I would try and cope with it by eating.

I stepped on the scale and saw 250 one morning. I shook my head and decided that I was done being overweight. I have been obese my whole life.

My goal is 160, but I take it one pound at a time and when I lose 10, I celebrate by trying an old pair of jeans on. It motivates me because each time, I get them a little further. I can now get them over my hips.

I have stopped eating fast food. I eat it maybe once a month now. I practiced leaving some food on my plate, then I ate on small plates. Now I leave some food on my smaller plates. I try to get to the gym 3 times a week and do 20 minutes. Each time I go, I push myself to go faster or harder. I am jogging again. After I exercise I reward myself by jumping into the pool to cool off. I do 2 laps in every stroke I know and then relax stress away by floating or working on a tan for once.

Some things that helped me a lot was that I told people about my goal and I keep them updated. Not only do I not want to disappoint, but the encouragement is helpful. I recruit friends to swim with me and work out with me.  Now my friend is down 20 pounds. It really helps to have music and a friend. I also try to schedule times to work out. That way I can't be distracted. I have promised to myself. And if someone asks me to do this or that, "I have plans for something already."

Hello
Its really very interesting to read about your success story.I think its very inspiring for me because sometimes can not control myself.Thank you very much for sharing this with us.You have done a good job.

Lori:

fast food is my greatest challenge! i love eating out! my goal is eating out once a month too.

I LOVE that you swim! I have always loved swimming but don't have any means of transportation to get to a gym or community pool. Hopefully I'll be buying a car very soon and then I can find a pool somewhere in my neighborhood, because I would love to do that! relaxing and burning calories in one!

Carol Gassett:

I have a question and don't know who to ask. There is no question box. How come on my menu they say avoid baked beans. Does that include any beans in soups or mor. Isn't a bean a protien? not a vegetable. Please let me know I don't eat much meat and love my tofu and beans for protein.

Very inspiring story. keep it up! sacrifices and dedication is what we really need to reach our goals!

tootsie 42:

I also heard about this challenge though tv. I want to thank you for sharing and hopefully I can finally get myself moving in the right direction. For the past few months I have put my weight into the tracker but unfortunately the pounds have gone up. I am embarrassed with myself and I have no excuses. You are an inspiration and I will try harder. Today is the first day of being serious. I hope I can continue saying this in the coming weeks, months and years. Thank you again for sharing

Seeker:

I joined the challenge over a year ago and have not been really motivated since. In fact at this point I am 9 pounds heavier than when I joined. I have been going up and down with my weight and since my car accident I find it more than hard to get focused on eating right. This saddens me. I just don't know how to really break the complusive eating habit. I can't blame it on work because I am retiring. I can't blame it on low self esteem anymore because I am doing better in that area too. I have found after really reevaluating my life and making substantial changes that I eat because it is one of the few places that I expressed myself. Imagine expressing yourself through eating...Well that is what I did...and still do. I just eat and eat and eat. I need to get a real handle on this fast. I sacrificed a lot when I had weight loss surgery in 2004 and I would more than hate myself and my life if I gained all that weigh back. I am a praying woman so I am asking God to really provoke me to be better with myself. Please God...Please.

Brandi :

I love hearing your story because like you I have been overweight my whole life. I feel inspired when I hear stories of how people take charge of thier lives and make the changes neccesary to be healthier. I am excited to hear more from other people like yourself and their success stories. Thank you for sharing, you have given me hope and great ideas for me to be successful. Keep up the great work.

Jennifer:

I am determined to get this weight off! Last time I saw my doctor, she stated that if I don't, I will be a diabetic. Being borderline diabetic is bad enough. Diabetes runs in the family and I am scared to death of becoming a diabetic. It will also help with my back problems to get this weight off. And the asthma. I would love to wear "skinny" clothes again.

Gina:

I am determined to go to my College reunion lighter. I have tried everything and now I am starting with my commitment to getting the pounds off NOW. Wish me luck. I am reading your stories and I am inspired. I will keep in touch!!! Let's go!!!

Phyllis Gitchell:

I only heard of this challenge this morning on the news. I have been in need of a good reason to start caring to lose weight again.
I wonder though if 50,000,000 is enough. Can it be increased to 1,000,000,000?

Thanks to who every started this.

Phyllis

Toni Love:

We do not have a walk challenge in our city. However, I will do the Alzheimer's Memory Walk on Saturday so I count that as my walk challenge.

Pat:

Hi, I have been trying to lose some weight since March 23rd. Just after my birthday of March 21st. I had weighed 254 in Feb. of 2009.
On May 4th I was down to 238lbs. I walked everyday starting 1/2mile and increased it to 2 miles. I wrote everything down I ate and drank. I cut out all fast foods and junk ate veggies and fruits. eat one slice of bread a day with one chicken pattie to start. I'm suppose to get my trigrisride and sugar count down. At this date I am suppose to weight no more than 200lbs.

I would drink lots of water. I cut the diet drinks out too.
Over the summer I have failed but I would like to continue, I however keep my walking up. I have not lost anymore weight I get down to 230 but sometimes I jump back up to 239. I'm a couier and I sometimes slip and get the bag of potato chips. The fact I have been to a few barbercue parties and had some and some people I hang with like to eat and eat plain foods. Of course that's my fault. I need to have more will power, and another thing stop weighing myself every morning, sometimes noon and night. What I do there is monitor my weight and I like to see it down. Before this year I have not been able to diet, this year I've wanted to do that. I do eat cheerios during the week about one of dry and plain in the morning. as of the weekend I haven't had my oat meal. I'm thinking I may eat my cheerios in the am and at night have one bowl of oatmeal plain with no salt or any additives. I have a husband says he will eat the same no matter what. Now he does tell me sometimes that I shouldn't weigh myself at all and health bars that I eat ( nut& fruit bars) I should only have 1 a day.

Well done and keep it up! I know that anyone can achieve something if they are really serious about it. They will learn how to put a limit or they are disciplined in terms of consuming food and in finding time just for a regular exercise. It is indeed very inspiring!

Lizsette Thomas:

Over the past 2 years i went from 311 lbs down to 230 without trying to lose weight. Now it seems the weight is creeping back on and it's more difficult to shed the pounds. I'm hoping that this program will help me lose another 30 lbs at least. i've never weighed under 250 since i was about 12 i'm now 42, please wish me luck

Adrain :

Carrie,

I'm so proud of you. Making the decision to lose the weight is not easy, and how you reward yourself is even better. How is your motivation from day to day? I get frustrated sometimes because I feel like I'm not doing enough or it's not coming off fast enough. Well I do want a lifetime change. I don't want a quick fix because the weight comes back that way. Can you give me any tips?

Shae:

Ok, so I started this over 2 years ago and had to quit, because I got pregnant. I'm just starting back out and have been working out 4 days a week (30 Minutes of Cardio, and weights). I've seen minimal weight loss and now after 4 weeks of trying I'm getting a little bit discouraged. Any words of wisdom :)

yvette johnson:

I am once again trying to lose this weight. My problem is eating the right foods, and working out. I'm tired of this on again off again thing. So here i go again. Hopefully i can keep it up this time. I want to lose the weight and feel good again. Wish me luck!

Tracie:

I seem to be losing inches not pounds, I'd like to lose both. I'm definitely exercising and not eating junk food, which I never really did anyway. I've always been more a veggie and fruit person. Can anyone help me figure out how to lose the pounds? I do cardio, stationery bike and walking, and then I do about an hour of weights, 5-6 times a week. Help!

First of all Great Job! I wanted to mostly comment on your decision to stop eating fast food. I realized how much this makes a difference in the weight loss of a lot of people. It's odd I never thought about it before, but I notice more now than ever that when I walk into a fast food place how many of the customers are overweight! No offense because I am one of those people. Now when I do go into a fast food place I don't order any value meals, I only stop in on the go to grab a side salad with no dressing and I snack on the raw veggies. It's easier than going into a grocery store and it's already cut up! :)

On March 09, 2009 I made a decision to lose 50 pounds by my birthday, which is June 28th. On my birthday, I had lost 42 pounds. So I missed my goal by only 8 pounds. However, to date, I have lost a total of 57 pounds. My goal weight is 180. I have had to buy a bunch of new clothes and have all my suits altered twice.

I owe all my weight loss to the support of my wife, the 4 miles of walking each day (2 miles twice per day) and moreover to the Trim Advantage System which is available exclusively at http://www.iChooseThat.com.

tootsie 42:

Today was the first day in many weeks that I have logged on. Maybe because I did not allow myself the opportunity of dieting...my own cross to bear. Carrie, your story shows that there is hope...even for me. I just finished my journal today...where I listed myself as defeated. I am obsessive/compulsive eater. The more depressed I feel...the more I eat. I know what I am and it makes me angry that I allowed myself to get to this point. I have blamed my gain on medication...but Carrie...it is me and I know it is me that must take that first step. I will try eating less...I don't eat fast food at all..so maybe that is a good thing. I migrate towards salty and sweets although in the end sweets and chocolate just makes me sick. You would think that I would stay away from such things. I have promised to start walking...and after reading your story that is what I will try to do also. I must lose no less than 85 pounds. Do you think I can do it? Am I up to the challenge? Any words of encouragement would be greatlhy appreciated. Maybe even scolding me would help.

Bianca:

I just started today to the 50 million lb, I have been eating healthy and walking since June. I had a bet at work where my co-worker and I would weigh every week to see who was the bigest looser, also we collected money every pay period about $10 then we had until the end of august the we could count the percentage who lost the most. Of course I hit it to win, I lost 19lb , it feels great!. Now that everything is done I want to keep myself motivated to continue my ideal weigh is 150lb and I want to make it. I still have 43 more pounds to go but I know if I have come this far I can continue. I am a mother of two and when I started it they were out on vacation so I could cook only stuff that I really needed now I have to tried my hardest because with all the cooking I have to be careful.

Wish me luck, I know I can do it!!

Tracy :

Kudos to you!!! Your story will be my inspiration. I signed up with 50 million pounds last year but never started my committment. Now that I return, your story is the first item I see. Reading it makes me ready to begin my journey. My weight is around 260. I will see you at 160. Thanks

Paula:

Thank you for your story it is very encouraging, I have been close to my 10% weight loss for about 2 months, can't seem to get there for some of the reason you mentioned, i.e fast foods.
Thank you for sharing.
Paula
